EXAM SYLLABUS

For the JIPMER 2026 entrance examination, the syllabus is generally based on the undergraduate curriculum relevant to your chosen postgraduate course.The Entrance Examination is common to all and consists of 100 single best response type MCQs having four alternatives and the questions will be asked from concerned subjects to the respective course as detailed below:

EXAM PATTERN

For the JIPMER 2026 entrance examination, the pattern remains consistent for both M.Sc. and MPH courses. The exam is designed to evaluate subject-specific proficiency through an online format. Brief details are given here about pattern of exam. Candidates should notice about all question patterns, marking pattern etc.

1 - Entrance Examination will be conducted only through a Computer Based Test (CBT)

2 - The duration of the examination shall be for One Hour and Thirty minutes.

3 - No candidate will be permitted to appear in the examination unless he/she holds a valid "Admit Card/Hall ticket" issued by the Institute and Identity proof in original & a photocopy of the same.

4 - The examination shall be conducted only in ENGLISH medium.

A. MSc Medical Biochemistry (Course Code: 8901)

Eligibility: Applicant should have qualified in a 3-year BSc Degree Examination of a recognized University with Biochemistry or Chemistry as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR candidates with BSc Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and BSc MLT, Lateral Entry from a recognized University.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 3 (Three) years.

2 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

3 - There are no stipendiary provisions during the study period.

B. MSc MLT – Microbiology (Course Code: 8902)

Eligibility: Applicants should have qualified in a 3-year BSc Degree Examination in Medical Lab Technology and BSc MLT, Lateral Entry from the recognized University.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 2 (Two) years.

2 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

C. MSc MLT – Pathology (Course Code: 8903)

Eligibility: Applicants should have qualified in a 3-year BSc Degree Examination in Medical Lab Technology and BSc MLT, Lateral Entry from the recognized University.

D. MSc Medical Physiology (Course Code: 8904)

Eligibility: Applicants should have qualified in a 3-year BSc Degree Examination of a recognized University with Physiology / Biotechnology as main subject with Biology / Botany / Zoology as ancillary subject OR BSc Zoology OR Candidates with BSc Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and BSc MLT, Lateral Entry from the recognized University.

E. MSc Biostatistics (Course Code: 8905)

Eligibility: A Candidate who has passed the Degree Examination in BSc degree in Statistics (Major) OR BSc degree in Mathematical Science with Statistics as a subject from any recognized University OR an examination of some other University accepted by the institute as equivalent thereto shall be eligible for admission.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 2 (Two) years.

2 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

3 - There are no stipendiary provisions during the study period.

F. MSc Neurotechnology (Course Code: 8906)

Eligibility: A Candidate who has passed the Degree Examination in BSc degree in Neurotechnology (OR) BSc degree in Science followed by Diploma in Neurotechnology (2 years regular course) from any recognized University. (OR) BE or B.Tech., in Biomedical Engineering or Biotechnology. (OR) Bachelor of Physiotherapy with 1-year experience in Neurology from a recognized Institution. (OR) Master of Physiotherapy (Neurology) (OR) BA/MA in applied Psychology.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 3 (Three) years.

2 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

3 - There are no stipendiary provisions during the study period.

2. MSc Nursing course (course code 8907)

Eligibility:

(i) The candidates should have passed the qualification of BSc Nursing Degree of this Institute or any other University accepted as equivalent thereof.

(ii) The candidates should have registered with the State Registration Council of Nursing and Midwifery.

(iii) The candidates should have at least one year of experience in a hospital or in a College or in a School of Nursing or in Community Health Program after BSc Nursing and registration with a State Nursing Council.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 2 (Two) years.

2 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

3 - There are no stipendiary provisions during the study period.

4 - For MSc Nursing, the allotment of seats will be done through counseling.

3. Master of Public Health (MPH) (course code 8908)

Eligibility:

1 -  Any applicant with qualification of M.B.B.S Degree /B.D.S (Dental) /B.E.,/B.Tech. (Any Branch), BSc (Nursing) / B.V.Sc. (Veterinary Science) / AYUSH / Allied Health or Social Sciences of any recognized University / Statutory Body, should have passed in first attempt in all semesters/year with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

2 - TWO years of completed work experience in public health system is desirable.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 2 (Two) years.

2 - There is no stipendiary provisions during the course of study

3 - There is a provision for sponsored / deputed candidates.

4. Post Basic Diploma in Nursing (PBD) (course code 8909)

Eligibility:

1 - Must be a registered nurse (R.N. & R.M.) or equivalent.

2 - Possess Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery with one-year experience as Staff Nurse or BSc Nursing or equivalent.

3 - The prescribed experience will be calculated only after obtaining the registration from a State Nursing Council.

Age Limit: The Upper age limit is 40 years as on the closing date of Online Registration and the age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Service candidates are as per existing Government rules.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is one year. However, the maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed two years.

2 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

3 - For Post Basic BSc. Nursing, the allotment of seats will be done through counseling as per the Roster Point Reservation.

Stipend & Leave eligibility:

1 - Rs.10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only) would be paid as stipend every month during one year study period ( Previous Year ).

2 - A total of 30 days of leave shall be admissible for the entire duration of the one-year course ( Previous Year ).

3 - Stipend will not be paid for the extension period, for reasons such as detention due to ineligible internal marks and/or attendance, medical reasons, etc.

Discontinuation of the course:

1 - If a candidate discontinues the course with 24 hours’ notice, the candidate will be relieved from the institute only after payment of a penalty of Rs.25,000/- and one month stipend of Rs.10,000/- ( Previous Year ).

2 - If the candidate discontinues the course with one month notice, a penalty of Rs.25,000/- alone must be paid to the institute for getting relieved ( Previous Year ).

5. Postgraduate Diploma/Fellowship (PGD/PGF) courses

A. Postgraduate Diploma in Genetic Counseling (Course Code: 8910)

Eligibility: Any applicant with qualification of MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, MSc/ M. Phil Medical Psychology from a recognized University.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 1 (One) year.

2 - There is no stipendiary provisions during the course of study

3 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

B. Postgraduate Fellowship in Family Planning (Course Code: 8911)

Eligibility: Any applicant with qualification of MBBS from a recognized University.

Duration of the course:

1 - The duration of the course is 1 (One) year.

2 - There is no provision for sponsored / nominated candidates.

3 - Stipend of Rs.25,000/- (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand) for per month for 12 months will be awarded ( Previous Year ).

6. Medical Physics Internship Program

Eligibility: 1. A post graduate degree in Physics from a recognized university and a Post M.Sc. Diploma in Radiological/Medical Physics from a recognized university;

OR

2. A basic degree in science from a recognized university, with Physics as one of the main subjects and a post graduate degree in radiological/medical physics from a recognized university.

Duration of the course:

The duration of the course is 1 (One) year.

Stipend & Leave eligibility:

1 - Rs.10,000/- (Rupees ten thousand only) would be paid as stipend every month during one year Internship period ( Previous Year ).

2 - A total of 30 days of leave shall be admissible for the entire duration of the one-year Internship program ( Previous Year ).

Completion of the Internship Program:

1 - The candidate has to mandatorily complete 1year internship program to be eligible for certification.

2 - Candidate has to do extension period in case they fail to complete mandatory 1 year program. Stipend will not be paid for the extension period.

Discontinuation of the course:

1 - If a candidate discontinues the course with 24 hours’ notice, the candidate will be relieved from the institute only after payment of a penalty of Rs.25,000/- and one month stipend of Rs.10,000/-( Previous Year ).

2 - If the candidate discontinues the course with one month notice, a penalty of Rs.25,000/- alone must be paid to the institute for getting relieved ( Previous Year ).

Here are the latest eligibility criteria for the JIPMER MSc/MPH Entrance Examination 2026-27 (based on the most previous available official patterns and prospectus information - subject to final confirmation when the 2026-27 notification is released. (i) The candidates should have passed the qualification of BSc Nursing Degree of this Institute or any other University accepted as equivalent thereof.

(ii) The candidates should have registered with the State Registration Council of Nursing and Midwifery.

(iii) The candidates should have at least one year of experience in a hospital or in a College or in a School of Nursing or in Community Health Program after BSc Nursing and registration with a State Nursing Council.

3. Master of Public Health (MPH) (course code 8908)

Eligibility:

1 - Any applicant with qualification of M.B.B.S Degree /B.D.S (Dental) /B.E.,/B.Tech. (Any Branch), BSc (Nursing) / B.V.Sc. (Veterinary Science) / AYUSH / Allied Health or Social Sciences of any recognized University / Statutory Body, should have passed in first attempt in all semesters/year with at least 50% marks in aggregate.

4. Post Basic Diploma in Nursing (PBD) (course code 8909)

Eligibility:

Must be a registered nurse (R.N. & R.M.) or equivalent.

Possess Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery with one-year experience as Staff Nurse or BSc Nursing or equivalent.

The prescribed experience will be calculated only after obtaining the registration from a State Nursing Council.

Age Limit: The Upper age limit is 40 years as on the closing date of Online Registration and the age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/Service candidates are as per existing Government rules.

5. Postgraduate Diploma/Fellowship (PGD/PGF) courses

A. Postgraduate Diploma in Genetic Counseling (Course Code: 8910)

Eligibility: Any applicant with qualification of MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, MSc/ M. Phil Medical Psychology from a recognized University.

B. Postgraduate Fellowship in Family Planning (Course Code: 8911)

Eligibility: Any applicant with qualification of MBBS from a recognized University.

6. Medical Physics Internship Program

Eligibility:

1. A post graduate degree in Physics from a recognized university and a Post M.Sc. Diploma in Radiological/Medical Physics from a recognized university;

2. A basic degree in science from a recognized university, with Physics as one of the main subjects and a post graduate degree in radiological/medical physics from a recognized university.

EXAM PATTERN

Entrance Examination will be conducted only through a Computer Based Test (CBT)

The duration of the examination shall be for One Hour and Thirty minutes.

No candidate will be permitted to appear in the examination unless he/she holds a valid "Admit Card/Hall ticket" issued by the Institute and Identity proof in original & a photocopy of the same.

The examination shall be conducted only in ENGLISH medium.

The Entrance Examination is common to all and consists of 100 single best response type MCQs having four alternatives and the questions will be asked from concerned subjects.

SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process for the JIPMER MSc and MPH entrance exams 2026 consists of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) held as an All India Entrance Examination, followed by merit-based seat allocation. Candidates must register online on the JIPMER website, take the entrance test, and participate in counselling based on their rank. 

The Candidates will be selected based on the performance in the entrance examination.

Candidates’ response to questions:

• The responses of the candidate for a question(s), on click of “Submit” button before closing of Examination shall be considered as the responses chosen by the candidate.

• Questions that are ANSWERED will be considered as answered.

• MARKED FOR REVIEW AND ANSWERED will be considered as answered.

• MARKED FOR REVIEW AND UNANSWERED will be considered as not answered.

Awarding of marks:

• Each answer with correct response shall be awarded FOUR marks.

• ONE mark will be deducted for each incorrect response.

• ZERO mark will be given for the question(s) not answered.

• The score such obtained will be the Raw Score.

• This Raw Score will be used to determine Percentile score for the purpose of Eligibility using Cut-Offs and for the purpose of determining Merit / Ranking.

The Percentile Score of a Candidate = No. of Candidates from the group with aggregate mark less than a candidate / No. of Candidates appeared in the Entrance Examination. x 100 

Example: If 3888 Candidates appear in the entrance exam and if a candidate scores 60% marks and has 2500 Candidates below him; his Percentile score will be calculated as (2500/3888) x 100 = 64.3004120

Merit Ranking: 

The Percentile scores for the Total Marks would be arranged to derive an Overall Merit List / Ranking.
