Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
IBPS RRB Assistant 2025 (Last Conducted) – Prelims
The IBPS RRB Office Assistant Preliminary Examination for the 2025 cycle was conducted on 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th December 2025 across multiple shifts. The exam was organised by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection in online mode at designated centres nationwide.
Each day’s prelims exam was held in four shifts:
Shift 1 generally started at 9:00 AM with reporting about 30-45 minutes earlier.
Shift 2 was around 11:15 AM.
Shift 3 was around 1:30 PM.
Shift 4 was around 3:45 PM.
Each shift’s exam duration was 45 minutes and included 80 objective-type questions (Reasoning Ability and Numerical Ability).
The difficulty level of the Prelims paper in 2025 was mostly easy to moderate. Reasoning Ability had puzzles, seating arrangement, inequality, analogies and basic logic questions. Numerical Ability included simplification, number series, arithmetic topics, and data interpretation which were manageable but time-constrained. Good attempts (with high accuracy) in many shifts ranged around 55–65 out of 80 by well-prepared candidates.
Candidates who qualified the prelims were eligible to appear in the Mains exam.
IBPS RRB Assistant 2025 – Mains
The IBPS RRB Office Assistant Mains exam for the 2025 cycle was held on 28th December 2025 and 1st February 2026 for different phases (as per official schedule pattern). The format of the Mains exam consisted of multiple sections including Reasoning, Numerical Ability, General Awareness, English/Hindi Language, and Computer Knowledge.
The Mains exam is generally longer and more comprehensive than Prelims. It requires deeper understanding and application skills, especially in General Awareness, numerical calculations, reasoning puzzles and language comprehension.
Good attempts in the Mains exam varied by section. Reasoning and Numerical Ability typically carried higher weight, and candidates who scored consistently across all sections expected good performance.
Pattern Observed in 2025 Cycle
The 2025-26 IBPS RRB Assistant exam cycle followed the pattern where Prelims was the qualifying round, and candidates needed to clear it to appear in the Mains exam. Prelims had a fixed 45-minute duration with two sections, and Mains had a longer duration exam with more sections and marking provisions for overall merit.
Expected IBPS RRB Assistant 2026 Exam Structure and Timings
Based on previous years and unofficial exam calendar trends for 2026, the expected schedule is:
Preliminary Exam (IBPS RRB 2026 Prelims) is most likely to be held in early to mid-December 2026 across multiple days with four shifts per day similar to the 2025 cycle:
Morning shift usually starts around 9:00 AM with reporting about one hour earlier.
Second shift around 11:15 AM.
Third shift around 1:30 PM.
Fourth shift around 3:45 PM.
Duration for each shift remains 45 minutes with Reasoning Ability and Numerical Ability sections.
The Mains exam for RRB Office Assistant (Clerk) in 2026 is expected later in December 2026 or January 2027 with a longer exam duration and multiple sections. Prelims qualification will be mandatory to be eligible for the Mains stage. This trend is based on the recently circulated 2026 calendar pattern (dates like 6, 12 & 13 December 2026 Prelims and 30 January 2027 Mains) shared by community sources, though official notification must be checked by candidates.
Exam Difficulty and Strategy Insights
In the Prelims exam, speed and accuracy are crucial as time is limited and questions are competitive. Reasoning puzzles and quick arithmetic topics often decide the cut-off. Numerical ability expects strong basics in percentage, number series, ratio-proportion, and DI sets.
In the Mains exam, understanding of advanced reasoning, thorough practice in DI, strong general awareness, and good command of language sections (English or Hindi) are essential. Computer awareness basics can also contribute significantly.
Summary of Key Elements for 2026 Exam
Candidates preparing for IBPS RRB Assistant 2026 should note:
The Prelims stage is mandatory and conducted in multiple shifts with short duration.
Successful candidates from Prelims move to the Mains exam.
Timing and shifts for Prelims are likely similar to the 2025 cycle (9:00 am onwards through late afternoon).
Difficulty levels typically remain easy to moderate in prelims and moderate to slightly tough in mains.
Final selection is based on Mains performance.
