PROGRAMS OFFERED
The Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), conducted by IIT Bombay, qualifies candidates for admission to postgraduate programs in design, primarily the Master of Design (M.Des) and, in some cases, Ph.D. in Design.
CEED scores are used by participating institutes (core IITs, IISc, and IIITDMs) and additional result-sharing institutes (private/deemed universities and others that accept CEED scores for their M.Des admissions). Note that there is no centralized counseling like for some other exams—qualified candidates must apply separately to each institute, which may conduct interviews, portfolio reviews, or additional tests.
Core Participating Institutes and Programs
These premier institutes directly use CEED scores for admissions:
IISc Bangalore (Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing): M.Des in Product Design, Development & Management (also considers GATE-qualified candidates); Ph.D. in Design.
IIT Bombay (IDC School of Design): M.Des in Industrial Design, Communication Design, Animation Design, Interaction Design, Mobility and Vehicle Design; M.Des by Research; Ph.D. in Design.

COUNSELLING PROCEDURE & CUTOFFS
CEED Counselling Process (for M.Des Admissions) CEED (Common Entrance Exam for Design) is for admission to M.Des programs at participating institutes (primarily IITs like Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kanpur, Roorkee, Gandhinagar, and others, plus result-sharing institutes). Unlike UCEED, there is no centralized joint seat allotment by IIT Bombay since around 2025—each participating institute conducts its own admission process independently.
Qualification: Clear CEED exam (Part A qualifying cutoff + overall merit rank based on Part A 25% + Part B 75%).
Application: After results (March 2026 for CEED 2026), qualified candidates apply separately to each desired institute via their respective portals (e.g., IDC IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, etc.). Upload CEED scorecard, portfolio, documents, and pay application fees.
Shortlisting & Selection: Institutes shortlist based on CEED rank/score + additional criteria:
Portfolio review (crucial for design aptitude).
Written test/interview (institute-specific, e.g., aptitude test, studio test, personal interview at IIT Bombay IDC).
Some may include GD or other assessments.
Final Admission: Merit list prepared by each institute; offers released (typically April–June/July). Accept offer, pay fees, report to institute. Multiple institutes possible if shortlisted/offered.
Key Notes: Apply to multiple institutes; deadlines vary (monitor institute websites). No common counselling rounds like UCEED. Score valid for 1 year. Check ceed.iitb.ac.in for official updates and participating institutes list.
Last Year Cutoffs (CEED 2025 - for 2025-26 Admissions)
Part A Qualifying Cutoff (released Feb 2025, based on mean 45.48 & SD 16.98):
Open/General: ~49–51 (approx. mean + SD adjustment).
OBC-NCL/EWS: ~44.5–46 (90% of Open).
SC/ST/PwD: ~24.5–26 (50% of Open). (Only Part A qualifiers proceed to Part B evaluation for merit rank.)
Admission Cutoffs: No centralized ranks; each institute releases its own merit lists/shortlists (not public numerical cutoffs like ranks). Effective "cutoffs" are high CEED scores + strong portfolio/interview performance.
Top institutes (IIT Bombay IDC): Very competitive; high overall scores (e.g., top ranks/merit) + excellent portfolio needed.
Other IITs (Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad): Relatively lower but still require good CEED rank + interview clearance. Trends: Institutes shortlist based on CEED merit; final selection holistic.
Expected Cutoffs for Upcoming (CEED 2026 - for 2026-27 Admissions)
Part A Qualifying Cutoff (released Feb 5, 2026, based on mean 39.35 & SD 16.89):
Open/General: ~47–50 (expected range, slightly lower than 2025 due to mean).
OBC-NCL/EWS: ~42–45.
SC/ST/PwD: ~20–25. (Varies slightly; check ceed.iitb.ac.in for exact.)
Admission Expectations: Similar to 2025—no fixed ranks published. Competition high for top programs (IIT Bombay, Delhi). Aim high CEED score (top merit) + strong portfolio for shortlisting.
IIT Bombay/Top IITs: Expect need for exceptional Part B + interview.
Overall: Qualifying Part A is baseline; final seats depend on institute-specific processes (portfolio/interview often decisive).
Counselling/Admission Schedule for 2026 (Tentative, based on patterns):
