About Course

M.Sc Applied Geology is a branch of Earth Science, which is indispensable for a career in the field of Geosciences. It is one of the Postgraduate programmes. It is the course that unravels the mysteries of the Earth. M.Sc Applied Geology programme aims to enrich students' comprehensive knowledge based on different branches of Geology. The special focus is on Applied Geology subject in certain areas of Geomorphology, Structural Geology, Hydrogeology, Petroleum Geology, Mining Geology, Remote Sensing and Environmental Geology. The course also provides in- depth knowledge and practical training to the learners in Applied Geology, which enables them to work at a higher level of education or career. Through M.Sc Applied Geology, candidates do gain knowledge on dynamics of Earth, basic principles of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy. The course deepens the knowledge about economic mineral formations and related exploration operations in industries. M.Sc Applied Geology imparts various concepts like economic mineral explorations, geological mapping techniques, geomorphologic principles and applications of geology in engineering and technology.

Why Choose Course And Required Skills

The skills required for becoming a successful geologist are:

1. Communication Skill: Like in any profession, communication skill is important to facilitate an efficient flow of information in the team and the organisation. Communication skill is important for directing workers, exchanging information, discussing problems and building rapport.

2. Teamwork: A majority of projects in the field require teams to work together. This is why individuals must work towards developing team skills so that they can work effectively in a team. Having proper team skills help achieve a faster solution to problems, improve the work environment and improve synergy and so on.

3. Perceptual skills: Perceptual skills are very important for Geologists as they are required to pay attention to minor details. They have to note down the details of the readings and interpret the readings to reach an appropriate conclusion.

4. Problem-solving skills: Geologists have to solve a number of problems in their field.  They must anticipate the consequences of an action. They should also identify the problems that can accompany the action in question. They have to formulate solutions to complex problems and finalize the course of action.

5. Analytical skills: One of the biggest assets of a candidate is his or her intrinsic analytical skills. This helps the candidate to understand complex problems, identify the root cause of the problem and estimate the severity of the problem and decide on the proper course of action.
