UPCET Syllabus for Biology

EXAM PATTERN

Till 2020, the entrance exams earlier known as Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE) were held in paper pen mode for admission to various courses including B.Tech., BBA, B.Arch., BHMCT, BFAD, BFA, B. Voc, B. Pharm, B. Des., MBA, MCA, MBA (Integrated), M.Tech., M.Tech. (Integrated), M.Sc. and Lateral entry to B. Tech/B. Pharm.

The government of UP has entrusted the task of conducting the UPCET – 2021 to the National Testing Agency (NTA) to cover admission to the first year and second year of the courses offered at the Institutions affiliated to AKTU, Lucknow including other mentioned universities situated in the territory of Uttar Pradesh.

Admission for the following courses under AKTU will be conducted through UPCET Examination. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Candidates willing to apply for UPCET Examination are required to fulfill certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities.
The criteria for eligibility UPCET are decided by the conduction body itself.

The candidate’s eligibility for UPCET Examination is based on the fulfillment of the following conditions:-

1. Nationality
2. Age Limit
3. Essential Conditions
4. Couse-wise Eligibility
5. Nationality-wise Eligibility

NATIONALITY

The candidate must be either of the following :- 

1. Indian National  
2. Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)
3. Foreign National
4. Non-Resident Indian (NRI)

AGE LIMIT

There is no age limit prescribed by National Testing Agency for candidates appearing for UPCET.

UPCET ESSENTIAL CONDITIONS

1. This Entrance Examination is open to the candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from any institution located in U.P. or whose parents are domicile of U.P subject to the eligibility conditions.If the candidate has passed qualifying examination from outside U.P., he/she has to produce domicile certificate of his/her parents (Father OR Mother only) at the time of verification of the document

2. This Entrance Examination is also open to the candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from any institution located outside U.P. and whose parents (both Father and Mother) are not domicile of U.P. subject to the eligibility conditions.

3. Candidates who are due to appear for the qualifying examination or have appeared, but results are awaited, are also eligible to appear in the UPCET. However, the candidates in respect of whom, the result of the qualifying examination has not been declared till the date of the document verification, due to any reason whatsoever, shall not be eligible for admission under any circumstances.

UPCET COURSE-WISE ELIGIBILITY

For admission to first year of B. Des. / B. Pharm. / BHMCT / BFAD / BFA / B. Voc / MCA (Integrated)/ MBA (Integrated)

The subject combination required in the qualifying examination (Intermediate examination of U.P. Board or 10+2 level examination or its equivalent) for admission to first year of different courses shall be as follows:

For admission to first year of MCA (Integrated)

Candidate must have passed (with/without grace) intermediate examination of U.P. Board or 10+2 level examination or its equivalent with compulsory subjects and one of the optional subjects as specified in the table mentioned above and obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together.

For admission to first year of B. Pharm

Candidate must have passed (with/without grace) intermediate examination of U.P. Board or 10+2 level examination or its equivalent with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with Mathematics/ Biology subject.

For admission to first year of BHMCT /BFAD /BFA/B Voc/ B. Des/MBA(Integrated)

Candidate must have passed (with/without grace) intermediate examination of U.P. Board or 10+2 level examination or its equivalent securing minimum 45% marks (40% marks for SC/ST category candidates) in aggregate.

For admission to first year of MCA in any institution affiliated to AKTU, Lucknow 

Passed BCA/ Bachelor degree in Computer Science Engineering or equivalent Degree or passed B. Sc. /B. Com/ B. A. with Mathematics at 10+2 level or at graduation level with Minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) in the aggregate

For admission to first year of MCA in other Universities of U.P

A candidate must have passed (with/without grace) Bachelor degree course with the eligibility conditions given in following table subject to the confirmation received from the concerned University:

Note :- Admission in second year (Lateral Entry BHMCT/BFAD/BFA/B.Des courses is not permissible.

For Lateral entry in “B.Tech. for Engineering Diploma holders or B.Sc. Graduates with Mathematics as one of the subject at XII standard”/ “B.Pharm for Diploma holders” in third semester (second year)

Note :- Admission is open only in the institutions affiliated to AKTU, Lucknow

1. Candidate who have passed qualifying exam from other than Uttar Pradesh State and whose parents are not domicile of UP State are not eligible for direct admission to second year of B.Tech / B.Pharm.

2. Candidates who have passed (with/without grace) three years Engineering Diploma from an Institution located in U.P. with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) OR whose parents (Father or mother) are domicile of Uttar Pradesh and he/she has passed three years Engineering Diploma with minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) recognized by the Board of Technical Education, U.P., in any branch of Engineering (except Agriculture Engg., Pharmacy and Architecture), are eligible for admission to Second year in any branch of Engineering /Technology.

3. Candidates who have passed (with/without grace) three years B.Sc. degree and passed XII standard with mathematics as one of the subject from any recognized University; securing minimum 45% marks (40% for SC/ST) in aggregate, are also eligible for admission to second year in any branch of UPCET-2022 Engineering/ Technology. These candidates shall be considered only after filling the supernumerary seats in this category with the candidates belonging to the Diploma stream. The candidates belonging to B.Sc. Stream shall clear the subjects Engineering Graphics/ Engineering Drawing/Engineering Mechanics (as applicable in University Curriculum) of the first-year Engineering programme along with the second-year subjects.

Note :- Admission to second year of B.Tech (Lateral entry) of HBTU would be governed by the eligibility criteria laid down by HBTU in the information brochure hosted on its website www.hbtu.ac.in.

UPCET NATIONALITY-WISE ELIGIBILITY

For admission to NRI quota in the first year

NRI candidates who possess minimum requisite qualification may get direct admission on 5% seats of total intake

UPCET NATIONALITY-WISE ELIGIBILITY

For admission to NRI quota in the first year

NRI candidates who possess minimum requisite qualification may get direct admission on 5% seats of total intake in State-Funded and Private Institutions of Uttar Pradesh in all courses except MBA/MCA/. However, applicants opting B.Arch. course under this category must appear in Aptitude Test on the day of counseling to be notified later. The University shall fill the seats of NRI quota (5%) seats in the following manner:

1. NRI quota seats shall be filled from NRIs who (a) have passed (with/without grace) the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from an Institution situated outside India, which is considered equivalent to (10+2) examination by the Association of Indian Universities
OR
Have passed High School Certificate Education (GCE) examination with Physics, Chemistry and Higher Mathematics (a) from London / Cambridge / Sri Lanka. (b) have appeared in SAT II examination with Mathematics level II, Physics and Chemistry. The relative merit of such cases will be decided on their SAT II score.

2. The vacant seats in NRI quota, if any, shall be filled up by such son / daughter / real brother /real sister of NRIs, who have passed intermediate or (10+2) or equivalent examination; with physics, chemistry and mathematics and securing minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ST) in physics, chemistry and mathematics taken together, from an institution situated in India

3. The relative merit of candidates mentioned in (2) will be decided based on the total marks obtained by them in physics, chemistry and mathematics. Such candidates need not appear in UPCET.

4. All such candidates MUST submit an NRI certificate obtained from Indian Diplomatic Mission / Chancellery / High Commission under their seal at the time of counseling.

For admission to Foreign Nationals (FN) / Overseas Citizen of India/ Children of Indian Workers in Gulf Countries (CIWGC) in first year FN/OCI/CIWGC

1. Seats shall be filled from Foreign Nationals / OCI's/CIWGC who have passed the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, which is considered equivalent to (10+2) examination by the Association of Indian Universities

2. Should submit a copy of passport or equivalent evidence in support of their Nationality. The relative merit of such cases will be based on their qualifying examination. The latest orders issued by Govt. of U.P. up to the date of admission will be applicable in FN/OCI/CIWGC.

DIRECT ADMISSION FOR VACANT SEATS AFTER COUNSELLING OF UPCET

For admission to the first year in Private Institutions at Institute Level Under Management Quota (for NRI candidates) / vacant seats after Counselling of UPCET

The 15% seats in private institutions shall be filled by the Management/ NRI quota at the institute level under the management quota as per the eligibility criteria specified. The vacant seats in the NRI/Management quota or vacant seats after counseling of UPCET in the order given below:-

1. Firstly, By the qualified candidates of JEE (Main)-2022 fulfilling the eligibility as specified for B. Tech. / B.Arch. Their relative merit will be decided on their rank in respective entrance examinations

2. Secondly, by the qualified candidates of UPCET-2022 who fulfill the eligibility as specified. Their relative merit will be decided on their rank in UPCET-2022.

3. Thirdly, by the merit of candidates in qualifying examinations lay down by All India Council of Technical Education, New Delhi for admission to various programmes which are updated from time to time.

For admission (Lateral Entry) to the second year in Private Institutions under vacant seats after Counselling

The vacant seats in B. Tech./ B.Pharm./ MCA course after UPCET counseling for lateral entry (second year) shall be filed within 15 days of the last date of counseling at institute level, firstly by the qualified candidates of UPCET, who fulfill the eligibility as specified. Their relative merit will be decided as per State Govt. order and may change.

ELIGIBILITY HIGHLIGHTS

1. Indian Nationals/ NRI/ PIO/ Foreign Nationals candidates are eligible to apply for UPCET.

2.. There is no age limit for admission into courses through UPCET.

3. For admission into UG courses, students must have passed their 12^th level or its equivalent from a recognized board or university. While for admission into PG courses, students must have done graduation.

4. Candidates appearing for the 12^th level can also apply for UG courses. For PG admission, students appearing in the last year of their qualifying exam can apply.

UPCET has been discontinued as a separate exam. Admissions to AKTU-affiliated colleges (B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Pharm, MBA, MCA, etc.) are now through national exams:

Analysis has been done on the paper which has been recently successfully conducted for UPSEE on September 2020.  

Paper- 1

Physics

In the Physics section, the majority of questions were from the 12th class and just 25% to 30% questions from the 11th class syllabus.

The questions in the Physics section were direct and anyone who clears with his/her fundamentals could have easily attempted 44 questions and with 85% accuracy will get 35 to 36 questions correct which means a score of 144 which is a decent score.

Major Highlights

1. The mathematics section was difficult as compared to Physics and Chemistry sections.
2. Geometry questions were found to be particularly tricky.
3. In the Physics section, the majority of questions were from 12th class and just 25% to 30% questions from the 11th class syllabus.

STUDY TIPS

Some general tips for clearing UPCET Examination has been listed below:- 

1. Be well Aware of Exam Pattern:- The candidates need to be well aware of the Exam pattern of the entrance test for the course they are desirous for. They should be well known with the marking scheme as well. It will make them aware of the Number of questions, time duration etc of the respective examination.

2. Complete knowledge of Syllabus:- The candidates must have full knowledge of the Syllabus of their respective examination. They should be well aware of topics asked under various subjects.

3. Preparation Strategy :- Applicants prior to commencing preparations should prepare a smart and effective entry-level testing strategy. Applicants should prepare a strategy in such a way that they will increase their chances of passing the entrance test with a good grade.

4. Time Management : Preparing for a test without timely administration is useless. Applicants should develop an appropriate timetable that covers all topics that come with the entrance test. Time should be handled by students in such a way that each topic of the program is followed before the examination.

5. Notes Preparation: Students who will be preparing for the examination should write down all the important points in one place. Selected notes should be short and clear. This will help the candidates to read all the important points during the review.

6. Short but frequent breaks:- The boring method of reading has never benefited the student. They should take short breaks between their study hours. These breaks will help to refresh the baptismal candidates and will help the baptismal candidates to continue learning in a new way.

7. Solving & Analyzing Mock Test:- Applicants should try out online or offline humorous tests. In this way, candidates will be able to evaluate their level of readiness and improve. Also, they will improve with their speed and accuracy.

8. Solving Previous Year Paper & Sample Paper :- Knowing the trends of the entry test, the best way to solve the sample papers or last year's papers. Also, by doing the paperwork from the previous year, the baptismal candidates will know the difficulty level of the test.

9. Be Confident & Positive in Approach:- Emerging students need to stay confident while preparing for UPCET. Students should not feel stressed or discouraged before the entrance test. They need to stay positive and think positively.

10. Regular Practice :- Applicants should practice regular examinations. Without practice, preparation is nothing. Applicants should focus on their high performance in weak subjects. And there should be a reasonable amount of time between practice.

OVERVIEW

Formerly known as UPSEE, the Uttar Pradesh Combined Entrance Test (UPCET) is a gateway for candidates seeking admission to various professional courses offered at undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) levels in all affiliated institutes of AKTU, Lucknow, Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT), Gorakhpur and Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU), Kanpur. 

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) (formerly UPTU) was established in May 2000 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh with a mission to acclimate and cultivate excellence in technical education and research by integrating human values and ethics among students.
