Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam For Design (UCEED) Syllabus
UCEED will have two parts. Part-A & Part B will have questions from the following topics:
Part-A
1. Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
2. Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.
3. Observation and design sensitivity: The capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically about them. Attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction.
4. Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design.
5. Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.
6. Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.

Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam For Design (UCEED): Exam Pattern
Question Paper
1. There will be ONE question paper of a total of THREE hours duration.
2. The question paper will be in English only.
3. The question paper will carry a total of 300 marks.
4. The question paper will consist of two parts: Part-A and Part B. It is compulsory to attempt questions from both parts.
Part-A (Total marks: 200; Maximum time: 2 hours)
1. This part will be administered through a computer-based test.
2. This part will consist of three sections.
Section 1 NAT (Numerical Answer Type)
14 questions (4 marks each; no negative marks). For these questions, the answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard on the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions.
Section 2 MSQ (Multiple Select Question)
15 questions. Each MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given. The following is the marking scheme:
Full Marks: + 4 If only (all) the correct option(s) is(are) chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Partial Marks: + 3 If all four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Partial Marks: + 2 If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen, both of which are correct, and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Partial Marks: + 1 If two or more options are correct but ONLY one option is chosen and it is a correct option and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Zero Marks: 0 If NONE of the options is chosen (i.e., the question is unanswered).
Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases
Section 3 MCQ (Multiple Choice Question)
28 questions (3 marks each for the correct answer; 0.71 negative marks for incorrect answers). Each MCQ will have four choices, out of which only one is the correct answer
Part-B (Total marks: 100; Maximum time: 1 Hour)
1. Part-B consists of TWO questions to test the candidates' drawing skills and design aptitude. This will require subjective evaluation. The questions in Part-B will be displayed on the computer screen, and the answer must be written/drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator. In the case of PwD candidates availing the use of a scribe, assistance in attempting Part-B is not permitted, as the question is aimed at evaluating their drawing skill
2. Part-B answer booklets will be collected at the end of the examination.
3. Part-B question is mandatory.
4. The entire paper (Part-A and Part-B) must be finished within the stipulated time for each part.

Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam For Design (UCEED) Eligibility
Candidates willing to apply for UCEED Examination are required to fulfil certain conditions to be eligible for it. The candidate who does not satisfy the Eligibility criteria like Age, Minimum educational qualification etc., their candidature shall be rejected by the authorities. The candidate’s eligibility for UCEED Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:-
1. Nationality
2. Age Limit
3. Number of attempts
4. Educational Qualifications
UCEED Exam: Nationality
Candidates who are NOT citizens of India at the time of registering for UCEED (by birth or naturalization) and whose parents are not citizens of India and do not come under UCEED PIO/OCI category at the time of registering for UCEED are treated as foreign nationals. Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of total available seats in the course. The availability of supernumerary seats will be announced at the time of seat allocation.
The seats allotted to OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) / PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card holders will be under Open category, but not supernumerary. Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO card holders are outside the ambit of reservations.
UCEED Exam: Age Limit
The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1999, if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category and born on or after October 1, 1994, if belonging to the SC, ST, or PwD category.
UCEED Exam: Number Of Attempts
A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years. Note that UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the same corresponding academic year.
UCEED Exam: Educational Qualifications
1. The candidate should have passed in all subjects in the Qualifying Examination (Class XII or equivalent), OR should be appearing for the qualifying examination in order to be eligible to attempting UCEED . Students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible.
2. Candidates appeared for the first time in their qualifying examination in or earlier are NOT eligible.
3. The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
4. Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
5. Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
6. Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
7. Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
8. A Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (www.aicteindia.org) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration.
9. General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
10. High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
11. Candidates who have completed Class XII (or equivalent) examination outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities to the effect that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination.
12. In case the Class XII examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have already passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination before appearing for UCEED.

Detailed UCEED 2021 Exam Analysis for Part A
1. Part A had a total of three sections which further had NAT, MSQ and MCQ questions. This part was computer-based and applicants had to complete it in 150 minutes. As per the expert's analysis, Numerical Answer Type questions were a bit difficult when compared to the Multiple Select and Multiple Choice Questions.
2. In the UCEED 2021, Part A possessed questions from the topics such as observation & design sensitivity, environmental & social awareness, visualization & spatial ability, analytical & logical reasoning, language & creativity and design thinking & problem-solving. According to the feedback of students, questions from the Visualization, Design Thinking, Spatial Ability, Problem-solving, and Analytical & Logical Reasoning topics were a little difficult than that of the topics of Environmental and Social Awareness, Observation and Design Sensitivity and Language and Creativity.
3. NAT has been reported as the toughest section, followed by MSQ. The MCQs were reportedly the easiest of all.

Part B of UCEED 2021 was designed to analyse the innovative approach and drawing skills of an individual. The question of Part B was displayed on the computer screen and candidates had to write down the answer on the answer book provided by the invigilator.

UCEED 2020 Exam Analysis
1. On January 18, 2020, 24 cities conducted the UCEED 2020 exams, with the marks coming up to a total of 300 marks. Based on the student feedback we’ve received, we’ve come to understand that most of them felt that the exam was moderate in difficulty.
2. In comparison to the previous year’s papers, it was easier, but the tricky questions in Part A bumped the difficult up to moderate. However, time was a crucial factor, and most students felt like they needed more of it.
UCEED Part A Exam Analysis 2020
1. There were a total of 18 numerical ability type (NAT) questions, 18 multiple select questions (MSQs), and 32 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Part A included aptitude questions based on Mathematics, verbal reasoning, and non-verbal reasoning. There were no GK questions in the exam.
2. MSQ section was pretty easier to answer as it did not contain any tricky questions. Most of the questions in MSQ were on cubes, cube faces, etc. Visualization questions that were asked in the exam were based on shadows, perspective, etc. The typical questions asked with regard to aptitude/mental ability included odd one out, puzzles, series and sequences, etc.
UCEED Part B Exam Analysis 2020
1. In part B, a descriptive situation-based question of a lady professor at her workplace was given and students were asked to draw her table and view of her room. Students were given only the last 30 minutes to answer the following question.
2. ‘A lady professor and her husband were having a conversation on the phone. He was upset with her because she was not following her diet plan. She had forgotten to take her lunch box, and her husband was yelling at her and said that he would not cook for her in the future. So she hung up the phone and ordered her 5th cup of tea and 2nd plate of pakodas. She was correcting students' math papers at that time and had to complete her research papers and she had a headache. Draw her table and the view of her room.’

UCEED 2024: Who can apply
Age limit: The candidate should have been born on or after October 1, 1999, if belonging to the OPEN/EWS/OBC-NCL category and born on or after October 1, 1994, if belonging to the SC, ST, or PwD category.
Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt UCEED for a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years. Note that UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the same corresponding academic year.
Qualifying examination: The candidate should have passed all subjects in the qualifying examination (Class XII or equivalent) in 2023, OR should be appearing for the qualifying examination for the first time in 2024 in order to be eligible for attempting UCEED 2024. Students from ALL STREAMS (Science, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible. Those who appeared for the first time in their qualifying examination (Class XII) in 2022 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in UCEED 2024.

1. A recent color photograph of a full frontal (face) view, with the head centered in the frame covering 70–80% of the photograph and taken within the last six months. The photograph should be such that it allows unambiguous identification of the candidate (only JPEG image formats with file extension .jpg will be accepted).
2. Scanned copy of the candidate’s full signature on white paper (only JPEG image formats with file extension .jpg will be accepted).
3. Qualifying examination certificate, if appeared in 2023 (only PDF formats with file extension .pdf will be accepted).
4. For those candidates who will be appearing in 2024 for the exam, a certificate from the school/college principal in the given format should be uploaded (only PDF formats with file extension .pdf will be accepted).

UCEED 2024: Scheme of Exam
Question Paper
1. There will be ONE question paper of a total of THREE hours duration.
2. The question paper will be in English only.
3. The question paper will carry a total of 300 marks.
4. The question paper will consist of two parts: Part-A and Part B. It is compulsory to attempt questions from both parts.
Part-A (Total marks: 200; Maximum time: 2 hours)
1. This part will be administered through a computer-based test.
2. This part will consist of three sections.
Section 1 NAT (Numerical Answer Type)
14 questions (4 marks each; no negative marks). For these questions, the answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard on the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions.
Section 2 MSQ (Multiple Select Question)
15 questions. Each MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given. The following is the marking scheme:
Full Marks: + 4 If only (all) the correct option(s) is(are) chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Partial Marks: + 3 If all four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Partial Marks: + 2 If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen, both of which are correct, and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Partial Marks: + 1 If two or more options are correct but ONLY one option is chosen and it is a correct option and NONE of the incorrect options is chosen.
Zero Marks: 0 If NONE of the options is chosen (i.e., the question is unanswered).
Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases
Section 3 MCQ (Multiple Choice Question)
28 questions (3 marks each for the correct answer; 0.71 negative marks for incorrect answers). Each MCQ will have four choices, out of which only one is the correct answer
Part-B (Total marks: 100; Maximum time: 1 Hour)
1. Part-B consists of TWO questions to test the candidates' drawing skills and design aptitude. This will require subjective evaluation. The questions in Part-B will be displayed on the computer screen, and the answer must be written/drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator. In the case of PwD candidates availing the use of a scribe, assistance in attempting Part-B is not permitted, as the question is aimed at evaluating their drawing skill
2. Part-B answer booklets will be collected at the end of the examination.
3. Part-B question is mandatory.
4. The entire paper (Part-A and Part-B) must be finished within the stipulated time for each part.
UCEED 2024: Syllabus
Part-A
1. Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
2. Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.
3. Observation and design sensitivity: The capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically about them. Attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction.
4. Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design.
5. Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.
6. Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.
7. Creativity: Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols.
Part-B
1. Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading.
2. Design aptitude: Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy.
UCEED 2024: Admission to the Examination Centres
Reporting time
1. Candidates should report at the examination centre (as allotted in the admit card) at 7:00 am on Sunday, January 21, 2024, with a printout of the Admit Card and a Valid, Original Photo Identity Proof. This is required to record the biometric information (thumb impression and photograph) before appearing for the examination.
2. Only candidates having a valid Admit Card and a Photo Identity Proof will be allowed inside the examination centre.
3. The identity of the candidates will be verified by invigilators as well as IIT representatives. If the identity of any candidate is in doubt, the candidate may not be allowed to appear for the examination. However, at their discretion, the authorities may permit the candidate to appear for the examination after completing certain formalities. No extra time will be allowed to complete the examination instead of the time taken to complete these formalities. If candidates with doubtful identities are permitted to appear, their candidature shall be subject to the decision of UCI Committee, which shall be final and binding.
4. Impersonation and/or use of any unfair means in the examination is a serious offence which will result in immediate disqualification of the candidate from UCEED, and lead to criminal proceedings against the candidate.
5. Candidates will NOT be allowed to carry any electronic devices (mobile phones, smart phones, watches of any type, calculators, tablets and the like), abacus, slide rule, log books, study material of any type, geometry box, and so on to the examination hall. A list of forbidden items will be put-up on the website before the exam, if there are additional items.
Drawing Materials
1. Candidates must bring their own pencils in a transparent packet. Sketch pens, color pencils, poster colors and other colouring materials are NOT permitted inside the examination hall. Candidates may bring a writing board of A4 size. Exchanging and borrowing of these materials are NOT permitted inside the examination hall.
2. Candidate has to remain in the examination hall for the entire duration of the examination.
3. Part-A of the examination is a computer-based test. In the event of any technical problems, the candidate may approach the invigilator for assistance and steps will be immediately taken to remedy the problem, or assign a different computer terminal if required. Candidates will get the complete allotted time to attempt their paper even in the event of any technical problem, and the time lost due to technical problems shall be adjusted automatically in the server.
4. Further instructions, if any, including those pertaining to COVID-19, shall be put-up on the website before the exam.

UCEED 2024: Mode of Selection
All shortlisted candidates will get a rank. All shortlisted candidates are considered qualified candidates in UCEED.
Shortlisting Criteria Evaluation
1. A rank list will be prepared based on the total marks (Part-A marks and Part-B marks combined) in UCEED
2. If the total marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, then the following tiebreak policy will be used for awarding ranks:
i. Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Part B.
ii. If the criterion given in (i) does not break the tie, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Section 2 of Part-A.
iii. If criteria (i) and (ii) do not break the tie, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Section 1 of Part-A.
iv. If there is a tie even after this, the candidates will be assigned the same rank.

Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is conducted by IIT Bombay under the guidance of the UCEED-CEED Implementation Committee every year for admitting candidates to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) program at participating college.
