BITSAT: EXAM PATTERN
BITSAT is held as an Online Computer Based Test which comprises 130 Objective Type Questions. Total time duration for the exam is 180 minutes.
The section wise distribution of Questions is given below :-
Subject | No of questions | |
Part 1 | Physics | 30 |
Part 2 | Chemistry | 30 |
Part 3 | English Proficiency | 10 |
Logical Reasoning | 20 | |
Part 4 | Mathematics/Biology (For B. Pharm) | 40 |
Total | 130 |
BITSAT EXAM PATTERN- HIGHLIGHTS
1- There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers to the 130 questions.
2- If a candidate answers all the 130 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and Logical reasoning only; three questions from each of them. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 130 questions.
3- The questions are so designed that a good student will be able to answer 130 questions in 180 minutes. The extra questions (a maximum of 12) will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher. However, candidates should keep in mind the fact that there is negative marking for wrong answers and any attempt to answer the questions by pure guessing of the answers is not likely to have any advantage, but may result in a reduction in the total score.
4- The questions will be selected at random from a large question bank. Different candidates will get different question sets. An expert committee will ensure that the question sets are of comparable difficulty IV level, content, question type etc. In this matter, the decision of the expert committee will be final and binding on the candidate.
BITSAT: MODE OF EXAMINATION
The BITSAT examination is conducted as an Online computer based test. The questions asked are of Objective type multiple choice in nature.
BITSAT: MEDIUM OF EXAMINATION
All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only. Candidates should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work, signing etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided, if required. Calculators and logarithmic tables are not allowed in the test centers. Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles.
BITSAT: MARKING SCHEME
Sections of the test are:

BITSAT UG EXAMINATION: TIPS & TRICKS
1- The first step is to go through and refer the syllabus of BITSAT, and make a study plan accordingly.Knowing that the syllabus for the BITSAT is a bit extensive and deep, aspiring candidates must plan their study pattern accordingly and develop some strategies.
2- Secondly, candidates are required to study the BITSAT exam pattern to know the structure of the question paper. It is important to know the distribution of sections, questions and marks.
3- To build the foundation complete the NCERT books first. Before going to any other books for preparation, just first and foremost prepare from NCERT. The syllabus and questions are entirely from the NCERT books only.
4- Since BITSAT is an online examination, practicing from sample papers and Mock test will help you understand the exam pattern more clearly and you will get to know the level of the examination.
5- Learn how to manage time. As the exam carries more questions and less time, do not go for the high-level questions rather practice decent level questions. Try to attempt the maximum questions in the first hour. Around 70-80 questions can be tried by a candidate to finish. This will help in doing physics and maths later properly.
6- Start your exam first with chemistry then English. It will save a lot of time of the candidate as the questions in both the sections are direct and theory-based.
7- The most important of all, the myth that “English is easy” and can be done just before the exam. BITSAT gives a good amount of questions on this and starts preparing for it for at least 6 months down the line.
8- Preparation from good study material matters a lot in the preparations. Learning from the best and recommended books is also a vital factor that affects the results of the students.
9- Lastly, do not forget to Revise what you have studied from the starting. Taking revisions must be included as the first task of the day. Concentrate and focus on brushing up and revising all the important concepts before you appear in the examination.

f. The application window will reopen immediately for Session 2 after the first date of Session 1 of BITSAT.
Test Format: Each session of BITSAT will be of 3 hours duration (without a break), comprising the following 4 parts:
Part I: Physics
Part II: Chemistry
Part III: (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning
Part IV: Mathematics or Biology (For BPharm candidates)

No marks are awarded for questions not attempted. While the candidate can skip a question, the computer will not allow the candidate to choose more than one option as the correct answer.
There will be 130 questions in all. The number of questions in each part is as follows:
Parts | Subject | No of Questions |
Part I | Physics | 30 |
Part II | Chemistry | 30 |
Part III | English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning | 10 & 20 |
Part IV | Mathematics/Biology (For B. Pharm) | 40 |

BITSAT UG: Mode of Selection
The authorities will prepare the BITSAT merit list based on the candidate's performance in the entrance examination. Two types of merit lists are prepared and released during the counseling of BITSAT.
BITSAT Admit List - This list contains the names of those candidates who have met the BITSAT cutoff. Candidates whose names feature in the BITSAT admit list will be called to participate in the BITSAT counseling for admissions.
BITSAT Wait List - This list contains the names of those candidates who will be called for admission if any seat remains vacant.
Admissions into programs offered by different campuses of BITS are completely based on merit and the scores acquired by candidates in the BITSAT entrance exam.
BITSAT Counseling
BITSAT counseling dates will be announced after the results are announced. Qualified candidates will have to participate in the BITSAT counseling for admission into the participating campuses. During the counseling of BITSAT, the candidates will have to submit their choice of courses and campuses in the order of preference. BITSAT seat allotment will be done as per the candidate's rank, preferences, and seat availability. The authorities will release the seat allotment result in the form of BITSAT iterations. Seven iteration rounds are expected to be held for BITSAT counseling. All of the selected candidates will have to confirm their admissions before the final date.
Here, the candidates also need to ensure that they meet all the eligibility criteria related to minimum marks to be obtained in the Class XII Board examination or equivalent qualifying exam.
In a situation wherein two or more candidates have the same BITSAT score, a tie-breaker will be done as per the below-mentioned rules:
a. Scores of candidates in Mathematics/Biology (For BPharm) subjects in BITSAT will be considered for preparing the merit list.
b. If the tie still exists, then the score of candidates in the Physics section of the BITSAT exam will be considered for preparing the merit list.
c. If the tie still exists then the score of candidates in the Chemistry section of BITSAT 2019 would be taken into consideration.
d. If the tie still exists then the total marks of candidates in their Class 12 examination in PCM/PCB (for BPharm) will be taken into consideration.
