ALL INDIA LAW ENTRANCE TEST (AILET) PH.D. PROGRAMME 2022
The National Law University, Delhi (NLUD) released AILET 2022 syllabus that candidates planning to appear in the exam need to consult when preparing for the national-level exam.
The AILET syllabus 2022 for the Ph.D. programme is broadly segregated into two parts- one is ‘Research Methodology’ and another comprises different topics from core legal subjects. Candidates looking to pursue a PhD programme need to submit their research proposals. AILET PhD question paper consists of 100 questions with a specific weightage to Research Methodology questions.

National Law University, Delhi has prescribed the exam pattern for AILET 2022. The exam pattern specifies the structure of the question paper, type of questions asked in the exam, marking scheme, and more. Also, it will help you get an idea of how the question paper will be framed.
AILET PH.D. 2022 : EXAM PATTERN
The modified syllabus of AILET 2022 for Ph.D. Programme is as follows:
1. The AILET 2022 for Ph. D programme will have two (2) sections. The examination will be for 90 minutes.
2. Section A: 50 multiple-choice questions (50 marks) to test legal knowledge and legal reasoning drawn from different areas of law. (50 questions: 50 marks)
3. Section B: Candidates have to answer one question (50 marks) out of the three options given in Section B. Section B question will require candidates to develop a research design in response to thegiven factual scenario. The evaluation of this part will particularly take into consideration the quality, feasibility and innovativeness of research questions and research methodology suggested by the candidate (1 question; 50 marks)
All the candidates are required to appear in the Entrance Test. Only Foreign Nationals are exempted from the Entrance Test. The Foreign Nationals are also required to apply online on the same portal.
NEGATIVE MARKING: There will be Negative Marking in Section-A in AILET-2022. The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of one (1) Mark.

National Law University, Delhi sets the AILET Eligibility for the exam. Candidates must check the AILET 2022 eligibility criteria in detail before filling the application form. It is important to check all the information about the eligibility to avoid the last stages of disqualification.
The candidate’s eligibility for AILET PH.D. 2022 Examination is based on the fulfilment of the following conditions:-

AILET PH.D. 2022 EXAMINATION : NATIONALITY
1. Candidate must be a citizen of Indian.
2. All candidates, other than those applying under the Foreign Nationals category, should appear for the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) and selection shall be solely on that basis. The Foreign National and OCI/PIO candidates are also required to apply online on the same portal.
AILET PH.D. 2022 EXAMINATION : AGE LIMIT & RELAXATIONS
There is no specific age limit mentioned to apply for AILET 2022 Exam.
AILET PH.D. 2022 EXAMINATION : EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
To be admitted to the candidature for a doctoral degree an applicant shall have:
A Master's degree in Law or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree in Law by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational institution accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting, or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
OR
Obtained a degree in Law and Master’s Degree in social sciences or humanities from any recognised educational institution Indian or a foreign educational institution accredited as per UGC Regulations, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).
OR
Degree in law and passed the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and awarded the Associate Membership of the Institute shall be eligible for admission to the programme, if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of law.
OR
Degree in law and passed the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India shall be eligible for admission to the programme, if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of law.
OR
Judge of any State High Court in India with three years’ experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.
Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Nationals
a.) Admission through Open Advertisement
1. A foreign national, who is interested in enrolling for the Ph.D. programme at NLU Delhi, may apply in accordance with the admission notifications of NLU Delhi.
2. The candidates shall have sufficient proficiency in English language. Foreign nationals are exempted from the entrance examination conducted by NLUD for Ph.D. enrolment.
3. All other requirements for admission which are applicable to Indian nationals shall be applicable to foreign nationals also. The number of seats available for foreign nationals shall be in accordance with the notifications issued by NLU Delhi from time to time.
4. The unfilled seats under Foreign National Category will be carried over to Unreserved Category
b) Admission of candidates from foreign universities/ institutions having MoU with NLU Delhi
1. A foreign national, who is interested in enrolling for the Ph.D. programme at NLU Delhi, and is currently enrolled for Ph.D. programme at a foreign university/institution having MoU with NLU Delhi, may be allowed to be registered for Ph.D. programme at NLU Delhi subject to the condition that one supervisor will be from NLU Delhi and one from the parent fore`ign university/institution of the candidate. Such a candidate will be exempted from appearing in the entrance test, subject to the condition that the candidate fulfils the other minimum eligibility conditions.
2. The Vice-Chancellor will be the competent authority to allow registration of such candidates on case-to-case basis, on the recommendations of the Doctoral Committee.
3. The candidate will be required to visit NLU Delhi for Viva-Voce to defend the thesis as per NLU Delhi Ph.D. Regulations.
4. The fees for the programme shall be in accordance with the terms and conditions of the MoU between NLU Delhi and the concerned foreign university/ institute.
No separate Ph.D. degree of NLU Delhi will be awarded in such cases. A joint degree may be awarded, if required under the MOU.

All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is conducted by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctorate (PhD) level law courses. This is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission in law programmes at NLU Delhi only.
AILET PH.D.2022 EXAM : SELECTION PROCESS
1. The number of seats available for Ph.D. programme will be notified by NLU Delhi every year before the start of admission process keeping in view the availability of teachers for guiding Ph.D. candidates. However, the number of seats may be increased up to 25% for considering the applications of regular faculty members of the NLU Delhi for Ph.D. admission, who are otherwise fulfilling the required eligibility criteria.
2. The admission shall be through a two-stage selection process, which includes (1) written entrance test and (2) the evaluation of research proposals followed by interview/ viva-voce. In the final selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% shall be given to the entrance test and 30% shall be given to the results of evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce.
3. 50% of the questions for the entrance test shall be relating to Research Methodology and the remaining 50% shall be from different areas of law. All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is conducted by National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctorate (PhD) level law courses. This is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission in law programmes at NLU Delhi only.
AILET PH.D.2022 EXAM : SELECTION PROCESS
1. The number of seats available for Ph.D. programme will be notified by NLU Delhi every year before the start of admission process keeping in view the availability of teachers for guiding Ph.D. candidates. However, the number of seats may be increased up to 25% for considering the applications of regular faculty members of the NLU Delhi for Ph.D. admission, who are otherwise fulfilling the required eligibility criteria.
2. The admission shall be through a two-stage selection process, which includes (1) written entrance test and (2) the evaluation of research proposals followed by interview/ viva-voce. In the final selection of candidates, a weightage of 70% shall be given to the entrance test and 30% shall be given to the results of evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce.
3. 50% of the questions for the entrance test shall be relating to Research Methodology and the remaining 50% shall be from different areas of law. AILET PH.D.2022 EXAM COUNSELLING PROCESS
The AILET online counselling process includes the following steps:
Step 1: Check AILET invite list
Firstly, all the qualifying candidates need to check their names/roll numbers in the invite list released by NLU Delhi. The invite list will be released for BA LLB (Hons) and LLM courses separately.
Step 2: Register for AILET counselling
All candidates whose names/roll numbers appear in the invite list then have to register themselves for the counselling on the NLU Delhi admission portal -

Pay AILET counselling fee of INR 50,000
Step 3: Check provisional admission list
Next, NLU Delhi will release the provisional admission lists containing the names, roll numbers and marks of candidates selected for admission. In case, there will be any vacant seats after the first list, the second admission list wil also be released by NLU Delhi on the official website.
Step 4: Pay balance fee
Lastly, candidates who wish to accept the seat then need to pay the remaining amount of admission fee in online mode.
