About Career
As a Broadband Technician, you will be installing residential/official cable as well as other broadband connections as well as repairing various equipment related to broadband connections. You may also need some knowledge of telecommunications, electronics or computer networking. You will mainly be involved in the service, repair, and maintenance of broadband-related devices and equipment. Your job will be to install underground and aerial cables, organize client’s wireless routers, computers, television sets, and other related equipment. You may also train new employees at a later stage. You will have to travel to customer’s premises for installation, servicing, and troubleshooting of broadband connections as per their requests.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
As a Broadband Technician, you will be engaged with one or more of the following roles and responsibilities: -
1. Installing, configuring, maintaining or repairing broadband connections, networking equipment or other related equipment such as routers, switches, modems etc..
2. Inspecting installation sites, lines and studying work orders to determine the kind of materials required for the installation.
3. Aligning modems for obtaining the clearest signal strengths.
4. Attaching electrical/telephone wiring and splicing cables using hand tools for making the proper broadband connection.
5. Drilling holes for wiring and passing cables through roof spaces, access holes or cavity walls to connect cables required for the installation.
6. Examining systems for locating problems like short circuits or loose connections.
7. Demonstrating usage instructions and benefits of broadband service to subscribers and explaining the details to them.

Career Entry Pathway
Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies – obtain training at an ITI in Electronics Mechanic or similar course– NSQF Training and Certificate for ‘Broadband Technician’ or similar course.
After Class 10, you may obtain training at an Industrial Training Institute (ITI), National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), Regional Vocational Training Institute (RVTI), National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), Industrial Training Center (ITC) or other vocational institutesfor Electronics Mechanic or similar trades. Then you can go for National Skill Qualifications Framework (NSQF) Level 4 Training and Certificate for ‘Broadband Technician’ or similar courses. You have to be at least 18 years of age for this course. The total number of training hours is 300.
After Class 10, you can go for National Skill Qualifications Framework (NSQF) Level 5 Training and Certificate for ‘Information Technology & Electronics System Maintenance’ or ‘Information & Communication Technology System Maintenance’ similar courses. The total number of training hours is 3120 and 4160 respectively.
After Class 12, you can go for National Skill Qualifications Framework (NSQF) Level 4 Training and Certificate for ‘Broadband Technician’ or similar courses. You have to be at least 18 years of age for this course. The total number of training hours is 300.
