About Career
1. As a Sports Coach, you will be coaching and developing a sports team. You will be teaching relevant tactics and techniques to a sports team and defining the role of each team player in the team. You will also have to motivate and build confidence among team members to build a positive environment and enhance their performances.
2. You will have to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each player and help them improve. You will be setting realistic goals for all or specific matches after a technical analysis. You will have to understand the mentality of each of your players and give them personalized fitness training or nutritional regime to enhance their abilities.
3. As a Sports Coach, you may also train individual sportspersons engaged in sports like badminton, tennis, swimming, archery, etc.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
As a Sports Coach, you will be engaged with one or more of the following roles and responsibilities: -
1. You will be teaching relevant tactics and techniques to a sports team and defining the role of each team player in the team.
2. You will be setting realistic goals for all or specific matches after a technical analysis. This could include perfecting a particular move of an individual or the whole team or introducing a new playing strategy based on the analysis.
3. You will be identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each student and helping them improve it.
4.You will be understanding the mentality of each of your players and giving them a personalized fitness, training and nutritional regime to improve their abilities.
5. You will be motivating and building confidence among team members to build a positive environment and enhance their performance.
6. You will be enrolling students in various sports contests and sports events for them to gain experience.
7. You will be resolving with fights, arguments and internal team distress.
8. You will be conducting performance analyses and gaining information to help you coach your athletes/team to perform better. This can through observations made real-time, or making notes by watching the match videos after every game.
9. You will be giving your players feedback after every game, setting individualistic goals and assisting them in achieving it by helping them mentally visualize it.

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies - Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies - D. P. Ed / C. P. Ed / Diploma in Sports Coaching / Certificate in Sports Coaching
After completing Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies, you can go for a Diploma in Physical Education (D. P. Ed.) or Certificate in Physical Education (C. P. Ed) or Diploma in Sports Coaching or Certificate in Sports Coaching. You can specialize in sport of your choice among Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Table Tennis, Swimming, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu, Yoga, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Softball, Swimming, Taekwondo, Rowing, Kayaking& Canoeing etc. Diploma courses are usually 2 year programs. Some certificate courses in sports coaching take 6 weeks to complete.

You can get admitted to a B. P. Ed course in some colleges without doing your graduation in any other discipline. Then you can do a Diploma in Sports Coaching / Certificate in Sports Coaching course. After completing Class 10, you can either go for Class 11-12 or a Certificate in Physical Education (C. P. Ed) course. Then you are eligible to pursue an integrated Bachelor of Physical Education (B. P. Ed) course which typically lasts for 4 years. Then you can do a Diploma in Sports Coaching / Certificate in Sports Coaching course. You can specialize in sport of your choice among Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Table Tennis, Swimming, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Wushu, Yoga, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Softball, Swimming, Taekwondo, Rowing, Kayaking& Canoeing etc.
Required Qualification & Competencies
Apart from education and / or training for becoming a sports coach, it is essential that you play the sports in which you want to develop your career as a Sports Coach. You may not have to be a star sportsperson to become a coach but you must have played at least at the State or National level or in a professional / amateur sports league.
After Class 10, you can go for:
1. C. P. Ed course.
2. Diploma in Sports Coaching in any sport of your choice.
3. Certificate in Sports Coaching in any sport of your choice.
After Class 11-12, you can go for:
1. Integrated B. P. Ed course.
2. Bachelor degree course in any discipline.
3. D. P. Ed course.
4. C. P. Ed course.

6. Diploma in Sports Coaching in any sport of your choice.
7. Certificate in Sports Coaching in any sport of your choice.
8. After you finish your B. P. Ed course, you can go for M. P. Ed (Master in Physical Education) course if you wish to pursue higher education in the field of physical education.

1. A Sports Coach remains so for time immeasurable. There is hardly any change in designation.
2. However, as you grow in experience and years you may also set up your own sports coaching institution whereby you can establish yourself as an Entrepreneur as well as a coach.
