About Career 

 As a Physical Education Teacher, you will be instructing students about the fundamentals of sports, foundations of physical education, physical training, discipline and various types of sports. You will be involved in coaching and developing your students to make them fitter and training them physically.

You will have to communicate with your students through physical demonstrations, games, or various exercises. You may have to arrange participation and team building activities for your students and ensure all the students are equally involved. You will also be involved in organizing and planning annual drills or other sports activities.

Key Roles And Responsibilities:

As a Physical Education Teacher, you will be engaged with one or more of the following roles and responsibilities: -

1. You will be instructing students about the fundamentals of sports, foundations of physical education, physical training, discipline and various types of sports.

2. You will be communicating with your students by demonstrating techniques and methods of participation or through games, various exercises etc.

3. You will also be explaining and enforcing safety rules and regulations.

4. You will be observing and evaluating your students through class competitions or games in order to prepare their performance reports.

5. You may have to arrange participation and team building activities for your students and ensure all the students are equally involved.

6. You will be involved in organizing and planning annual drills or other sports activities.

7. You may have to interact with the guardians of your students to keep them informed about any particular physical issues their wards may be facing.

8. You will have to coordinate with your colleagues (other teachers, principal and staff members) and participate in discussions and meetings regarding overall curriculum development, annual sports meet, training workshops, teacher recruitment etc.

Career Entry Pathway 

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies – D. P. Ed / C. P. Ed

After completing Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies, you can go for a Diploma in Physical Education (D. P. Ed.) or Certificate in Physical Education (C. P. Ed). These courses are usually 2 year programs.

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies - Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies – Bachelor degree in any discipline - C. P. Ed

After completing Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies, you can go for a Bachelor degree in any discipline. Then to specialize in physical education you can go for a Certificate in Physical Education (C. P. Ed) course. These courses are usually 2 year programs.

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies - Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies – B. P. Ed

After completing Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies, you can go for a Bachelor of Physical Education (B. P. Ed) degree from any institution across the country. You can get admitted to a B. P. Ed course in some colleges without doing your graduation in any other discipline.

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies - Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies – Bachelor degree in any discipline - B. P. Ed

After completing Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies, you can go for a Bachelor degree in any discipline. Then you can go for a Bachelor of Physical Education (B. P. Ed) degree from any institution across the country. This is usually a 2 year program. Some colleges want you to complete your graduation before you can go for a B. P. Ed course.

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies - Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies or C. P. Ed – Integrated B. P. Ed

After completing Class 11-12 with any subject as per scheme of studies or a Certificate in Physical Education (C. P. Ed) course. Then you are eligible to pursue an integrated Bachelor of Physical Education (B. P. Ed) course which typically lasts for 4 years.

2. C. P. Ed course.

After Class 11-12, you can go for:

1. Integrated B. P. Ed course.

2. Bachelor degree course in any discipline.

3. D. P. Ed course.

4. C. P. Ed course.

5. B. P. Ed course.

6. After you finish your B. P. Ed course, you can go for M. P. Ed (Master in Physical Education) course if you wish to pursue higher education in this field.

Competencies Required

1. You should have interests for Social Occupations. Social occupations involve helping or assisting others; these involve working with and communicating with people to provide various services; these may involve educating and advising others.

2. You should have interests for Realistic Occupations. Realistic occupations involve more practical and hands-on activities than paperwork or office work. Realistic occupations often involve physical activities for getting things done using various tools and equipment. 

3. You should have knowledge of Education and Training - various principles and methods of developing training or teaching curriculum, design of instructional methods, developing course materials, teaching and giving instruction individuals and groups.

4. You should have Instruction Skills- training others how to do something.

5. You should have Teaching Skills- teaching and educating others about various academic and applied subjects across different academic fields.

6. You should have Public Speaking Skills- Talking effectively to a large group of people or an audience or addressing the public at large in different settings such as conferences, seminars, meetings, etc.

7. You should have Supervising Skills- Supervising and monitoring the performance of others, businesses, and different projects.

8. You should have Active Listening Skills - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, understanding the points being made by others, asking questions, etc.

9. You should have Reading Comprehension Skills - Skills in understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

10. You should have CriticalThinking skills- Skills in the analysis of complex situations, using logic and reasoning to understand the situations and take appropriate actions or make interpretations and inferences.

11. You should have Oral Comprehension Ability- listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

12. You should have Oral Expression Ability- communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

13. You should have Deductive Reasoning Ability- apply general rules and common logic to specific problems to produce answers that are logical and make sense. For example, understanding the reasons behind an event or a situation using general rules and common logic.

14. You should have Speech and Language Recognition Ability- identify and understand the speech and language of another person.

15. You should have originality - The ability to come up with unusual or innovative ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.

Career - Job Opportunities & Profiles 

1. As a Physical Education Teacher, you can get job opportunities in both government and private educational institutions such as day schools, residential schools, and colleges.

2. You may find opportunities as a Physical Trainer with sports clubs and team.

3. You may also find work as a trainer involved in conducting corporate training workshops after some years of teaching experience.

Career Growth

A teacher remains a teacher for time immeasurable. There is hardly any change in designation. You may earn more and change your place of work as you grow in experience.

Salary Offered  

1. In the entry-level jobs: You may get about Rs. 10,000.00 – Rs.15,000.00 or more per month.

2. After having 1-6 years of experience, you may expect about Rs. 15,000 – Rs. 25, 000 per month or more.

3. After having 6-12 years of experience, you may get about Rs. 20,000.00 – Rs. 45,000 per month or more.

4. In the senior level jobs, with 12-20 years of work experience, you may expect to get about Rs. 35,000 – Rs. 50,000 per month or even more.

5. You can earn much more if you get to work with sports clubs and teams.
