About Career
1. Sales Executives are also known as Business Development Executives, Sales Associates, and Marketing Executive. As a Sales Executive, you will be interacting with customers face to face to a sell a range of products or services that are provided by the company you work for. You will have to deal with customer queries regarding the services and products of the company.
2. You also have to approach clients / potential customers to discuss products that they ask for and meet their requirements. You may have to visit potential buyers from door to door to sell your products. You should be able to provide a brief explanation of the products to the customers, attract their interest and convince them to buy the products or services.
3. You will be directly responsible for increasing company sales. You may have to introduce promotional offers and opportunities to customers. You may sometimes have to cross-sell. Cross-selling means selling a product/service that is related to what a customer initially asks for.
4. You will be expected to be updated about the company’s products, policies and services always. Customer complaint handling is the most critical part of this role.

As a Sales Executive, you will be involved in following key roles and responsibilities:
1. Assisting customers to select products based on their needs, applicable regulations and product specifications.
2. Demonstrating the use, benefits or operation of different products or services.
3. Convincing people to buy a product or service by emphasizing on product features after analyzing customers' needs.
4. Informing customers of estimated delivery schedules, warranties, service contracts, or other information pertaining to purchased products.
5. Resolving disputes or complaints of customers regarding the services and products of a company.
6. Identifying prospective customers using business directories, participation in organizations leads from existing clients, trade shows or conference attendances.
7. Frequently contacting (in person or over phone calls) potential clients for discussing how specific products or services can meet their needs.
8. Recording and documenting client-related information for circulating details of promotional offers and opportunities.
9. Managing monthly, quarterly and yearly sales targets.

Career Entry Pathway
Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies – NSQF Level 2 Training and Certificate for ‘Salespersons’ or similar courses - NSQF Level 3 Training and Certificate for ‘Sales Representative’ or similar courses
After Class 10, you need to undergo National Skill Qualifications Framework (NSQF) Level 2 Training and Certificate for ‘Salespersons’ or similar courses. The total hours of training will be 200-500. Then you can go for National Skill Qualifications Framework (NSQF) Level 3 Training and Certificate for ‘Sales Representative’ or similar courses. The total hours of training will be 200-1500.
Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies – obtain National Apprenticeship Certificate for ‘Sales Person’ or related trades
After Class 10, you can obtain a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) for ‘Sales Person’ or in related trades after completing Apprenticeship training. Apprenticeship training will be for 6-24 months.
Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies – MES course for ‘Sales Representative’ or similar courses
After Class 10, you can enroll for Skill Development Initiative Scheme (SDIS) course for ‘Sales Representative’, ‘Sales Person (Door to Door)’, ‘Sales Personnel’, ‘Sales Associate’, ‘Salesman’ or similar courses based on Modular Employable Skills (MES) framework under the Ministry of Labour and Employment of India.
Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies – Class 11-12 with any subject combination as per scheme of studies – B. Voc in ‘Sales and Marketing’
After Class 12, you can go for a 3 year course for B. Voc (Bachelor of Vocation) in ‘Sales and Marketing’.

The future of this pathway looks decent. The Indian Retail industry is showing a substantial growth with rising disposable income and demand for quality products. The total consumption expenditure is forecasted to reach around 3600 billion US Dollars. In the last 15 years, the Indian BFSI (Banking, Financial Services and Insurance) industry has expanded manifold and is expected to grow at a steady rate. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana also expected to provide highly extensive financial services to the unbanked areas through skilled salespeople.
The Insurance industry is expected to show growth to almost USD 280 billion, with new distribution channels and innovative products being introduced and is predicted to grow subsequently by 12-15 per cent annually for the next three to five years. The Print Media industry is expected to grow in terms of employment volume to 0.13million. The employment volume in the Footwear Sector is expected to grow to 1.44 million.
