About Career
As a Scaffolder, you will plan, erect, alter, and dismantle various types of scaffolds to help the construction crew work safely at a height for the construction and repair of buildings and other structures such as bridges, mobile towers, and factory buildings.
The scaffold is a temporary structure made with iron pipes, boards, couplers, etc. Scaffolds are also made of bamboo but the use of bamboo is reducing fast. There are other materials also such as aluminum pipes, toughened glass pipes, etc. but iron pipes are most common.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Determine the quantity of scaffolding materials required for erecting the scaffold as per the height requirement.
2. Prepare the foundation or base by leveling and compacting the ground for the erection of the scaffold.
3. Unload, shift, and stack the required quantity of scaffolding materials.
4. Select various scaffolding materials such as couplers, pipes, clamps, etc., and inspect the materials for any defects, bends, etc.
5. Erect scaffold using pipes, couplers, clamps, and other materials.
6. Fix safety nets around the area of scaffolding to ensure the safety of the construction crew and other people at a construction site.
7. Fix boards, guard rails, and other scaffolding accessories to help the construction crew work at height.
8. sequentially dismantle scaffold.
9. Maintain workplace safety standards for scaffolding.
10. Stack, shift, and load scaffolding materials for further use.

Career Entry Pathway
Class 5 in school – you may obtain training along with NSQF Level 1 qualification in Shuttering & Scaffolding/Helper Carpenter – Work for minimum 1 year – Obtain an NSQF Level 2 qualification in Assistant Shuttering Carpenter.
After completing Class 5 in school, you may apply for training for 6-8 months along with NSQF (National Skills Qualification Framework) Level 1 certification in Shuttering & Scaffolding/Helper Carpenter. Before applying for the NSQF Level 2 certificate in Assistant Shuttering Carpenter, you need to obtain a minimum of 1 year of work experience as a non-trained and non-qualified worker.
After completing Class 5 in school, you may apply for training for 6-8 months. Before applying for the NSQF Level 2 certificate in Assistant Scaffolding - System, you need to obtain a minimum of 2 years of work experience as a non-trained worker in the same occupation and a minimum of 1 year of experience as a trained certified Helper Shuttering Carpenter.
After completing Class 5 in school, you may apply for training for 8-12 months along with NOS Level 3 certification for the Scaffolder – System. Before applying for the NSQF Level 3 certificate in Scaffolder - System, you need to obtain a minimum of 6 years of site experience as a non-trained worker and a minimum of 3 years of experience as an Assistant Scaffolder.
Required Qualification & Competencies
1. After Class 5 in school, you can work in scaffolding as an un-training and un-qualified person for 1 / 2 / 6 years to obtain NSQF Level 2 qualification in Assistant Shuttering Carpenter, NSQF Level 2 qualification in Assistant Scaffolder-System and NSQF Level 3 qualification in Scaffolder-System respectively.
2. You may also obtain an NSQF Level 1 qualification in Helper Carpenter-Shuttering and Scaffolding first while working in the field and then obtain Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications progressively with more work experience.

Competencies Required

Career - Job Opportunities & Profiles
You will find work with contractors that can be either government or private, engaged in civil, mechanical, or electrical construction work. Most of the jobs are in civil construction such as the construction of buildings, shopping malls, bridges, elevated roads, etc.
Career Growth
Career growth opportunities are limited. With experience, you can move from being an Assistant Shuttering Carpenter to an Assistant Scaffolder and then to a Scaffolder. With 10-15 years of experience, you can become a Site Scaffolding Supervisor.
Salary Offered
1. At the beginning of your career, you may earn about Rs. 5,000 – 6,000 per month.
2. With 3-5 years of experience, you may earn about Rs. 8,000-12,000 or even more per month.
3. With 8-10 years of experience, you may earn about Rs. 10,000 – 30,000 or even more per month.
