About Career
As a Radiology Technician, you will be trained in performing diagnostic imaging examinations such as X-rays, CT (Computed Tomography) Scans, and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Scans under the guidance of a Radiologist. You will be responsible for preparing patients and operating radiologic equipment for imaging or testing.
As a Radiology Technician, you will be working with doctors and helping them to diagnose ailments and identify areas inside the human body that are affected by diseases or injuries.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
As a Radiology Technician, you will be involved in the following key roles and responsibilities:
1. Preparing and setting up the imaging room for patients and keeping the radiology room clean.
2. Determine patients' imaging needs by reading requests or instructions from the doctor.
3. Explaining the procedures to patients for reducing anxieties and obtaining cooperation.
4. Positioning the patient on examining the table and setting up and adjusting equipment for obtaining an optimum view of specific body areas as requested by the doctor.
5. Positioning imaging equipment such as CT scans, MRI scans, and X-Ray Machines and adjusting controls for setting exposure factors, such as time and distance.
6. Using beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to the patient.
7. Making exposures necessary for the requested procedures; will be rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards.
8. Collecting and maintaining records of patients examined, examinations performed, patients’ medical histories, views taken, or technical factors used.

Career Entry Pathway
Class 10 all subjects as per the scheme of studies – Class 11-12 Physics, Chemistry, and Biology along with any other subject as per the scheme of studies - Diploma in Radiology Technician from ITI or other vocational training institutes.
After completing classes 11-12, you can apply for a Diploma in Radiology Technician from any ITI (Industrial Training Institute) or other similar vocational training institutes. This course is usually 2 years in duration (with four semesters of six months each).
After completing class 12, you may obtain NSQF Level 3 certification as an X-Ray Technician. Then you can work for a minimum of 3 years as an X-Ray Technician, before obtaining NSQF Level 4 certification in Radiology Technician from any vocational institute or another similar institute. For this certificate, you need to be 18 years of age.
Required Qualification & Competencies
After classes 11-12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology along with any other subject as per the scheme of studies, you can obtain a Certificate in Radiology Technician or a related field or go for NSQF qualifications.

The chances of promotion of the radiology technicians increase with experience and expertise in handling the tools and performing job duties adequately. From the positions of an Assistant X-ray/Radiologic/MRI/CT Scan Technician, one can become a Technician and then a Senior Technician. In a large hospital, you can get into a supervisory position after 15-20 years of experience.

1. As an apprentice or trainee, you will be earning about Rs. 7000-12,000 a month.
2. After 1-3 years of experience, you will be earning about Rs. 14,000-17,000 a month.
