As a CRPF officer, you will assist police and law enforcement units of state and union territories to maintain law and order situations when there is a crisis such as a terrorist attack, mob violence, riots, etc.. A state government may requision for your services during natural calamities or any extra-ordinary situation arising out of large-scale accidents, political violence, etc.
You’ll be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the law and order situation and overlook security arrangements during general elections in your designated area in a state. You’ll also need to carry out counter-insurgency operations and neutralize domestic threats inside India. You’ll be involved in responding to disaster relief operations and will carry out rescue missions with the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force).
Key Roles And Responsibilities :
1. Strategize, plan and conduct police operations.
2. Act swiftly in response to riots and riot like situations and unrest to bring the crowd under control and restore the law and order situation.
3. Assess and evaluate situations to devise the best manoeuvre or routine.
4. Conducting drills and on-the-job training to ensure that the troops remain in a state of constant vigil and preparedness.
5. Contribute to UN peacekeeping missions.
6. Ensuring efficacy and serviceability of armaments,
7. Manager personnel, redress grievances and administer the office.
8. Planning, coordinating and supervising the installation, operation, and maintenance of the battalion's single-channel radio and internal wireline communications.
9. Planning for and supervising the installation, operation, and maintenance of all user-owned terminal equipment (telephones, and data terminals)
10. Exercise disciplinary measures
11. Disbursements of pay, allowances, and bookkeeping.
12. Keep records, store and manage data and write legends.
13. Interacting with local authorities such as Police and local administration to enhance operational capabilities.
14. Obtaining support from Battalion HQ or local administration regarding operation support, logistics and other administrative needs.
15. Provide medical assistance to personnel and attend to their physical well being.
16. Planning air reconnaissance and security missions, pilot and maintain aircraft.
17. Purchase equipment according to budget specifications, and manage inventory.
Work Environment
Working conditions may often range from harsh to hostile. May involve long idyllic periods of isolation with a sudden spurt of activity. Consequences of error may range from minor to fatal. The hierarchy structure and the instructions from superiors are strictly adhered to. May involve extensive physical activity. Use of armaments is involved. Desk jobs too involve high strategic activities and stress. Coping with stress is a necessity.

Class 11-12 Physics and Mathematics along with any other subject as per scheme of studies- Graduation in B.Sc. (Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry) - CAPF-AC exam-Battalion Signal Officer Course
After Class 11-12 Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics along with any other subject as per scheme of studies and completing your graduation in B.Sc. Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics you can appear for the CAPF-AC exam and after clearing the exam and passing the medical you can enroll in the Battalion Signal Officer course to join as an Assistant Commandant (Technical).
Required Qualification & Competencies
CAPF-AC Exam :
1. After completing your graduation from any discipline, you can appear for the CAPF-AC (Central Armed Police Forces – Assistant Commandant) examination under UPSC for recruitment to Assistant Commandant post which is a DAGO (Directly Appointed Gazetted Officer). After clearing the exam, a rigorous physical and medical examination is conducted, passing which is mandatory.

Rapid Action Force :
Rapid Action Force is the unit which responds to riots or riot like situations to deal with communal violence, law and order duty, festival and election duties and agitation. They also carry out Humanitarian duties such as disaster relief at the time of natural calamities and engage in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions.
CoBRA (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) :
The commando battalion for Resolute Action was added in 2008 to counter the Naxalite movement in India. This specialised CRPF unit is one of the few units of the Central Armed Police Forces in the country who are specifically trained in guerilla warfare. This elite fighting unit has been trained to track, hunt and eliminate small Naxalite groups. There are currently 10 COBRA units
Engineering Wing (CRPF)
CRPF troops regularly engage in relief missions along with NDRF, which require operations such as building bridges and shelters. The engineering wing exists to bring together contraptions or structures at a moment’s notice
Technical Wing (CRPF)
Personnel in this branch are responsible for managing equipment, telecommunication network, and are incharge of construction work.

Salary Offered
1. Assistant commandant: The pay band for assistant commandants is 46,800 - 1,17,300 /-
2. Deputy commandant: DCs have a similar pay band as assistant commandants and get between 46,800 - 1,17,300 /-
3. Second-in commandant: This is one of the higher positions in CRPF and they get 1,17,300/-.
4. Commandant: These are special officers and fall under a higher pay scale. The starting salary is 1,17,300/-
5. DIG: DIGs draw a salary of 2,01,000/- per month.
6. IG: Inspector generals are paid in the band of 1,12,000 to 2,01,000.
7. ADG: These are one of the top police officers of the country. They get paid up to 2,25,000/-
8. SDG: The Special Director General falls under the pay band of 2,25,000 - 2,30,000/-
9. DG: A Director General’s salary is fixed at 2,50,000/-.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has launched a massive recruitment drive to fill 76,578 vacancies in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) by completing all the necessary groundwork. CRPF is a part of CAPF along with BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, NSG, AR and CISF. CRPF has the maximum vacancies. CRPF is the largest of the Central Armed Police forces and owing to the multi-faceted work it carries out ranging from riot control to disaster relief, maintaining law and order during elections, &counterinsurgency. The future prospects for recruitment of CRPF officers will remain as moderately high as ever.
