5. Revision is the Key :- Revision in the last few days should be on top of your mind. The more you are clear about your basic concepts, the more you are confident of attempting the paper. Try to revise the basics of all the chapters so that you can get high marks.

SELECTION PROCESS
Step 1: Appear for the NMAT by GMAC Exam
Register on the official website: mba.com/exams/nmat
The exam is computer-adaptive, conducted in two modes:
At test centers (in India)
Online proctored from home (for some international candidates)
Exam Pattern:
Total questions: 108
Duration: 120 minutes (2 hours)
Sections: 3 (equal weightage)
Language Skills
Quantitative Skills
Logical Reasoning
No negative marking
You can take the exam up to 3 times (with at least 15 days gap between attempts).
Important Note for NMIMS: Only your first attempt score is considered by NMIMS Mumbai and its campuses.
Scores are usually available immediately on screen and officially within 48 hours.
Step 2: Shortlisting by Participating Colleges
After the exam, your scores are sent to the colleges you selected during registration.
Colleges shortlist candidates based on:
Overall NMAT score
Sectional cutoffs (minimum marks required in each section)
Each college has its own cutoff. For example:
NMIMS (Mumbai & other campuses): Official cutoff for MBA is 209 overall (with sectional minimum around 60 in each section). For MBA Pharmaceutical Management, it is lower (around 190).
Shortlisted candidates receive a call letter on their dashboard.
Step 3: Final Selection Process (Stage 2)
This stage varies slightly by college, but the common elements are:
Group Discussion (GD) or Case Discussion (CD)
Written Ability Test (WAT) – Essay or case-based writing (some colleges)
Personal Interview (PI) – Often includes questions on academics, work experience, current affairs, and your career goals
Competency Assessment / Psychometric Test (especially for NMIMS – this is a new/recent addition with high weightage)
For NMIMS (most popular) – Final selection weightage (approximate, based on recent trends):
NMAT Score: 10%
Competency Assessment Test: 50–60%
Personal Interview: 10–15%
Work Experience: 10–15%
Past Academics (10th, 12th, Graduation): 5–10%
Other colleges may use GD + PI + WAT with different weightages.
Step 4: Final Merit List & Admission
Colleges prepare a final merit list based on NMAT score + Stage 2 performance + work experience + academics.
Selected candidates receive admission offers.
You must pay the fees and submit documents (10th, 12th, graduation marksheets, degree certificate, work experience proofs, etc.) for confirmation.

COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS
NMAT by GMAC is a national-level MBA entrance exam conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). It is accepted by over 50 B-schools in India (including NMIMS, XIMB, KJ Somaiya, TAPMI, etc.) and some international institutes. The exam is computer-based, with a flexible 45–50 day testing window, and candidates can appear up to 3 times in a year.
NMAT Counselling / Admission Process (2026 Cycle)
There is no centralized counselling like in engineering or medical admissions. Each participating B-school conducts its own independent selection process after candidates share their NMAT scores. The process is usually called “Admission Process” or “Selection Rounds” rather than “Counselling”.
Step-by-Step Process:
Appear for NMAT by GMAC Exam
Register on the official website (mba.com/exams/nmat).
Schedule and take the test (typically Nov–Dec window; for 2026, expect similar timeline with a short window in Jan in some references).
Score is available within 48 hours. You can retake if needed.
Apply to Individual Colleges
After getting your scorecard, apply separately to each desired B-school through their official portals.
Most colleges have their own application forms with additional fees.
Deadline varies by institute (usually Dec–Feb/March).
Shortlisting Based on NMAT Score
Colleges release their cutoffs (overall + sectional).
Candidates meeting the cutoff are shortlisted for the next rounds.
Selection Rounds (GD / WAT / PI)
Group Discussion (GD) or Written Ability Test (WAT) / Case Discussion.
Personal Interview (PI).
Some institutes (e.g., NMIMS) may have an additional Competency Test or profile-based evaluation.
Final selection is based on: NMAT score + GD/WAT + PI + Academic profile + Work experience + Diversity factors.
Document Verification & Admission Offer
Submit original documents (10th, 12th, Graduation marksheets, degree, work experience certificates, etc.).
Pay the admission fee to confirm the seat.
Waitlist movement may happen in later rounds.
Important Tip: Apply early to multiple colleges. Check each institute’s website for exact application deadlines and selection criteria.
NMAT Cutoffs (Latest Trends – 2025/2026 Cycle)
NMAT cutoffs are released as raw scores (out of 360) or percentiles by individual colleges. There is no single official cutoff for the exam itself — it depends on the institute and program.
NMIMS (Most Popular) – 2025 Cutoffs (Actual / Announced)
MBA (Core), MBA HR, Business Analytics, Digital Transformation (all campuses): 209 overall + 62 sectional in LR, LS & QS.
MBA Pharmaceutical Management: 190 overall + 50 sectional.
Note: NMIMS significantly lowered its cutoff in recent years (from ~230–248 earlier to 209). Mumbai remains the most competitive campus.
Other Top Colleges – Expected / Recent Cutoffs (2025 Trends)
College / Program | Expected NMAT Cutoff (Overall Score) | Sectional Notes | Approx. Fees (Lakh) |
NMIMS Mumbai (Core) | 209+ (earlier 230–248) | 62+ in each section | 20–24 |
NMIMS Bangalore / Navi Mumbai / Hyderabad / Indore | 209+ | 60–62+ | 14–21 |
KJ Somaiya Institute of Management (Mumbai) | 215–225+ | Profile-based + high score | 18–20 |
XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar) | 220–230 or 87–92 percentile | Sectional cutoffs apply | — |
TAPMI Manipal | 215–225 | Good sectional balance | ~14–18 |
SDA Bocconi Asia Center (Mumbai) | 205–210+ | — | — |
SPJIMR (GMP – profile-based) | 230+ or 80th percentile | Strong profile required | ~22.5 |
ITM Business School | 180–200 | Lower barrier | ~10.5 |
ISBR Bangalore / Woxsen | 165–210 | Varies | 9–12 |
Amity University | 150–170 | Easier entry | 12–15 |
Sectional Cutoffs (General Expectation):
Logical Reasoning (LR): 60–79+
Language Skills (LS): 60–85+
Quantitative Skills (QS): 60–73+
A score of 220+ is generally safe for most good colleges; 235–250+ gives you top choices like NMIMS Mumbai or SPJIMR.
Factors Affecting Cutoff:
Number of applicants
Difficulty level of the exam
Seats available
Quality of applicant pool
Key Advice for 2026 Aspirants (from Varanasi or anywhere in India)
Aim for 220+ overall with balanced sectionals to maximize options.
Apply to 8–10 colleges to keep backups.
Prepare for GD-PI/WAT simultaneously with NMAT prep.
Keep all academic documents ready.
