Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
The Mains Examination was considerably different from the Prelims because it tested candidates' ability to write and apply law, rather than simply identify the correct option. The examination required detailed legal answers, proper statutory references, legal reasoning and appropriate presentation.
The Mains stage was therefore more demanding in terms of conceptual understanding, answer-writing ability and time management. Candidates needed to demonstrate not only knowledge of the law but also the ability to apply legal provisions to factual situations.
The major areas of preparation for the Mains included Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law, Evidence, Contract Law, Property Law, Family Law and other prescribed substantive and procedural laws. Questions could require candidates to explain legal principles, discuss statutory provisions, analyse factual situations and provide reasoned legal conclusions.
Compared with the Preliminary examination, Bare Act reading alone was not sufficient for the Mains. Candidates needed to supplement statutory reading with case laws, important judgments, legal principles and regular answer-writing practice.
The Mains examination also placed considerable emphasis on structured legal writing. A strong answer generally required the candidate to identify the relevant legal issue, state the applicable law, discuss the relevant provision or precedent, apply it to the facts and arrive at a clear conclusion.
The 2025 Mains examination also attracted public discussion regarding the distribution of candidates shortlisted for the next stage. JKPSC subsequently clarified that the selection process had been conducted fairly and strictly on merit.
The current official JKPSC website also records that the marks card for the Civil Services (Judicial) Competitive Examination 2025 was made available on 11 June 2026.
Overall Mains Assessment
The JKPSC Civil Judge Mains 2025 can be assessed as Moderate to Difficult, primarily because of the depth of legal knowledge and answer-writing skills required. Candidates with strong command over Bare Acts, important judgments and procedural law had an advantage.
