Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
Last Conducted IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I (PO) Prelims — 2025
For the 2025 recruitment cycle, the IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Preliminary Examination was conducted on 22nd and 23rd November 2025 by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection. Candidates appeared in multiple shifts due to high number of applicants.
The exam was held in four shifts each day to manage capacity across test centres. Reporting times and exam start times were structured so that candidates were required to reach the centre well before their shift begins — generally about one hour before the exam time.
A typical Prelims day had the following structure:
Shift 1 usually began around 9:00 AM,
Shift 2 around 11:15 AM,
Shift 3 around 1:30 PM, and
Shift 4 around 2:45 PM to 3:45 PM.
Candidates needed to report early for document verification and security checks.
The Prelims pattern included two sections — Reasoning Ability and Numerical Ability — each carrying 40 questions for 40 marks, for a total of 80 questions in 45 minutes. Negative marking of one fourth mark was applied for every incorrect answer. Although many coaching and education portals covered detailed section-wise analysis, most shifts were reported as easy to moderate in overall difficulty.
Candidates who scored above the cut-off in Prelims qualified for the Mains exam.
IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I Mains — 2025
For the 2025 cycle, the Mains examination for Officer Scale-I was held on 28th December 2025 as a single-day online test. Successful Prelims candidates appeared in the Mains across a single shift format.
The Mains exam was more comprehensive and included multiple sections such as Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude, General Awareness, Financial Awareness, English Language, and Quantitative Aptitude. The number of questions and marks was larger than Prelims, and total duration was longer than 45 minutes due to broader syllabus coverage. The difficulty level was generally reported as moderate overall, with some shifts having tougher Data Interpretation or reasoning puzzles.
Difficulty & Analysis Trends (2025)
Prelims Difficulty:
Reasoning Ability and Numerical Ability were mostly easy to moderate and centered on structured logical reasoning questions and straightforward arithmetic. Regular practice in these areas was sufficient for most candidates to score competitive marks if time management was good.
Mains Difficulty:
Mains required stronger accuracy and technique, especially in quantitative and reasoning sections. Computer Aptitude and GA sections could make or break the paper for many. The overall difficulty was moderate, with some shifts reported slightly tougher depending on how heavy the DI or reasoning puzzles were.
Expected 2026 Exam Pattern Based on Trends
According to unofficial calendars shared by aspirants (pending official IBPS notification), the likely time frame for IBPS RRB Officer Scale-I 2026 may be:
Preliminary Examination: around 21st and 22nd November 2026 (two days with multiple shifts) — this is based on community-shared calendars showing a similar pattern to 2025.
Mains Examination: expected around 20th December 2026 — usually held about a month after Prelims.
While these are not official dates, they are consistent with how IBPS has scheduled RRB Officer exams in previous years (usually Q4 of the year). The official notification will be released by IBPS on ibps.in, and candidates are advised to check it once available.
Key Insights for 2026 Preparation
Prelims is qualifying in nature; strong basics in Reasoning and Numerical Ability are crucial.
Time management is essential in Prelims due to limited 45-minute duration.
Understanding exam patterns from 2025 — types of puzzles, DI questions, and arithmetic topics — will help aspirants set realistic practice goals.
Mains demands wider preparation across GA, language, reasoning, and quant perspectives.
Consistent revision of pattern and mock tests helps align performance to expected difficulty levels seen in recent cycles.

STUDY TIPS
The IBPS RRB Officer exam (CRP RRBs XIV), conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, is competitive, with Prelims focusing on Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude/Numerical Ability, while Mains adds General Awareness, Language (English/Hindi), and Computer Knowledge. Negative marking is 1/4th (0.25) for wrong answers, and sectional timing applies in Prelims (Reasoning – 25 minutes, Quant – 20 minutes; total 45 minutes). Scale-II (Specialist) exam duration is 2.5 hours due to the Professional Knowledge section. Based on the official structure, here are updated study tips:
Master the Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Familiarize yourself with the latest pattern. For Scale I/Clerk Prelims: 80 questions (40 Reasoning, 40 Quant) for 80 marks. Mains: 200 questions/200 marks across 5 sections (Reasoning 50M, Quant 50M, GA 40M, Language 40M, Computer 20M) in 2 hours. Scale II/III have a single exam of 200 marks (Specialists include 40 marks Professional Knowledge; 2.5 hours duration). Prioritize high-weightage topics like puzzles/seating in Reasoning, DI/simplification in Quant, banking/current affairs in GA, and MS Office/internet basics in Computers.
Create a Realistic Study Schedule: Allocate daily time based on strengths/weaknesses—e.g., 2 hours Quant, 2 hours Reasoning, 1 hour GA, 1 hour Language, 30 minutes Computer. Increase mock frequency as exam approaches.
Focus on Basics and Speed: Build a strong foundation in arithmetic and logical reasoning. Use shortcuts and calculation tricks to improve speed. Practice 50–100 mixed questions daily per section.
Daily Current Affairs and Banking Awareness: Dedicate 30–45 minutes daily to banking news, RBI updates, government schemes, rural economy, NABARD, and priority sector lending. Cover at least last 6 months before Mains.
Practice Mocks and Analyze: Take 2–3 sectional mocks weekly and 3–4 full-length mocks near exam. Analyze errors, time management, and accuracy (target 85%+). Focus more on weak sections.
Language and Computer Prep: Practice RC, error spotting, cloze tests daily. For Computer Knowledge, revise fundamentals like MS Office, Networking, Cyber Security basics.
Health and Time Management: Study 6–8 hours daily with proper breaks. During the exam, attempt easy questions first and manage sectional timing carefully.

Use resources like official IBPS notification, Arihant/BS Sijwali books for Reasoning/Quant, Lucent for Computer, and banking awareness compilations.
