Analysis
EXAM ANALYSIS
Preliminary Exam 2024 was conducted on 24 August 2024, 25 August 2024 and 31 August 2024. The exam was conducted in four shifts each day. The usual shift timings were morning shift around 9 am to 10 am, second shift around 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, third shift around 2 pm to 3 pm and fourth shift around 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Reporting time was generally one hour before the exam time as mentioned on the admit card.
Prelims exam pattern remained the same as previous years. Total 100 questions were asked for 100 marks. Total time was 60 minutes with separate sectional timing. The three sections were English Language, Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude. There was negative marking of one fourth mark for every wrong answer.
Difficulty level of IBPS Clerk 2024 Prelims was overall easy to moderate across most shifts. English section was easy to moderate with reading comprehension, error detection and cloze test. Reasoning section was moderate due to puzzles and seating arrangement sets. Quantitative section was moderate and time consuming, mainly based on arithmetic word problems, simplification and number series. Good attempts in most shifts were around the mid 70s to low 80s depending on accuracy and shift difficulty.
Mains Exam 2024 was conducted on 13 October 2024 in a single shift. The duration of the mains exam was 160 minutes. The sections included General or Financial Awareness, General English, Reasoning Ability and Computer Aptitude, and Quantitative Aptitude. Total questions were 190 for 200 marks with sectional timing. The difficulty level of mains was moderate overall. Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning were slightly lengthy and calculation based. General Awareness was scoring for candidates who prepared banking and current affairs of the last six months seriously.
Now based on this trend, what can we expect for IBPS Clerk 2026?
Prelims will most likely be conducted in August or September 2026 in multiple days with four shifts per day. The structure is expected to remain the same because IBPS has maintained a stable pattern for several years. Mains will likely be conducted about one to two months after prelims, usually in October or November, in a single shift.
Strategic insight for 2026:
First, speed and accuracy are extremely important in prelims because cut off depends heavily on competition. Second, puzzle and seating arrangement practice is crucial for reasoning. Third, arithmetic topics like percentage, profit loss, time and work, simple and compound interest are very important for quantitative section. For mains, regular preparation of banking awareness and current affairs of at least six months before the exam is essential.
