EXAM PATTERN
‘Computer Based Online test’ means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate answers the questions on the computer by using a keyboard or mouse. Each computer is connected to a server, which prepares the question set and delivers it to the candidate on the computer. This is unlike the traditional paper-pencil-based test, which is generally offered on a single day to all candidates. Salient features of BITSAT are given below:
The section wise distribution of Questions is given below :-
Subject | No of questions | |
Part 1 | Physics | 30 |
Part 2 | Chemistry | 30 |
Part 3 | English Proficiency | 10 |
Logical Reasoning | 20 | |
Part 4 | Mathematics/Biology (For B. Pharm) | 40 |
Total | 130 | |
1- There is no time limit for individual parts of the test. The candidate can go back and change any of his/her answers to the 130 questions.
2- If a candidate answers all the 130 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left. These extra questions will be from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and Logical reasoning only; three questions from each of them. Further, once the candidate has opted for extra questions, he/she cannot go back for correction of any of the earlier answered 130 questions.
3- The questions are so designed that a good student will be able to answer 130 questions in 180 minutes. The extra questions (a maximum of 12) will give a chance to highly meritorious candidates to score higher. However, candidates should keep in mind the fact that there is negative marking for wrong answers and any attempt to answer the questions by pure guessing of the answers is not likely to have any advantage, but may result in a reduction in the total score.
4- The questions will be selected at random from a large question bank. Different candidates will get different question sets. An expert committee will ensure that the question sets are of comparable difficulty IV level, content, question type etc. In this matter, the decision of the expert committee will be final and binding on the candidate.
Mode of Examination
The BITSAT examination is conducted as an Online computer based test. The questions asked are of Objective type multiple choice in nature.
Medium of Examination
All the questions and instructions of the test will be in English only. Candidates should bring a pen for the purpose of rough work, signing etc. Blank sheets for rough work will be provided, if required. Calculators and logarithmic tables are not allowed in the test centers. Candidates are not allowed to bring any other personal belongings such as mobiles.
Marking Scheme
Sections of the test are
1- Physics
2- Chemistry
3- English Proficiency & Logical Reasoning
4- Mathematics/ Biology
Marking Scheme Highlights
1- Each correct answer fetches 3 marks
2- Each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1 mark)
3- No marks are awarded for questions not attempted

Study Tips
STUDY TIPS
1- The first step is to go through and refer the syllabus of BITSAT, and make a study plan accordingly. Knowing that the syllabus for the BITSAT is a bit extensive and deep, aspiring candidates must plan their study pattern accordingly and develop some strategies.
2- Secondly, candidates are required to study the BITSAT exam pattern to know the structure of the question paper. It is important to know the distribution of sections, questions and marks.
3- To build the foundation complete the NCERT books first. Before going to any other books for preparation, just first and foremost prepare from NCERT. The syllabus and questions are entirely from the NCERT books only.
4- Since BITSAT is an online examination, practicing from sample papers and Mock test will help you understand the exam pattern more clearly and you will get to know the level of the examination.
5- Learn how to manage time. As the exam carries more questions and less time, do not go for the high-level questions rather practice decent level questions. Try to attempt the maximum questions in the first hour. Around 70-80 questions can be tried by a candidate to finish. This will help in doing physics and maths later properly.
6- Start your exam first with chemistry then English. It will save a lot of time of the candidate as the questions in both the sections are direct and theory-based.
7- The most important of all, the myth that “English is easy” and can be done just before the exam. BITSAT gives a good amount of questions on this and starts preparing for it for at least 6 months down the line.
8- Preparation from good study material matters a lot in the preparations. Learning from the best and recommended books is also a vital factor that affects the results of the students.
9- Lastly, do not forget to Revise what you have studied from the starting. Taking revisions must be included as the first task of the day. Concentrate and focus on brushing up and revising all the important concepts before you appear in the examination.

While a few other institutions such as IIT Patna and NIIT University may consider similar entrance credentials, the BITS campuses remain the main and most prominent destinations through BITSAT.
BITSAT primarily grants admission to Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani campuses in India:
BITS Pilani (Pilani Campus, Rajasthan) — The flagship and most prestigious, established in 1964, ranked 11th in NIRF Engineering 2025, excellent for research, placements (avg. ?18-30 LPA+), and core branches like CSE (highest cutoff).
BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus — Strong in tech/coding culture, good infrastructure, slightly lower cutoffs than Pilani, popular for CSE/ECE.
BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus — Modern facilities, growing reputation, offers B.Pharm alongside engineering, competitive for core branches.
These three Indian campuses (Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad) are the main ones accepting BITSAT scores for Integrated First Degree programs (B.E./B.Tech equivalent, B.Pharm, M.Sc.). Dubai Campus admits partly via BITSAT but focuses more on 12th marks/international criteria. No widespread acceptance in other colleges—primarily BITS system only (some mentions of NIIT University are outdated/limited).
Seats
Reliable education portals and analyses estimate the total UG seats through BITSAT to be around 3000 (may vary slightly year-to-year due to minor adjustments). This has increased gradually over time (e.g., earlier years were lower, around 2000–2500 in some reports).
Expected campus-wise distribution (approximate)
BITS Pilani (Pilani campus): 1040–1045 seats (largest/oldest campus, highest share).
BITS Hyderabad: 1080 seats (often the highest in recent estimates).
BITS Goa (K K Birla Goa campus): 850–855 seats.

COUNSELLING PROCESS & CUTOFFS
The BITSAT 2025 cutoff scores (for admission to the 2025-2026 academic year at BITS Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses) have been officially released by BITS Pilani on their admissions portal (admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in). These are the final closing cutoffs after all counselling iterations, valid and cross-checked from the official source as of January 2026.
Cutoffs are the minimum BITSAT scores (out of 390) required for admission in the last round. They vary by campus and programme due to demand, seats, and applicant performance. There are no category-wise reservations — uniform for all (general merit only, except board toppers' direct admission).
Final BITSAT 2025 Cutoffs
BITS Pilani Campus
B.E. Chemical: 210
B.E. Civil: 206
B.E. Electrical & Electronics: 260
B.E. Mechanical: 235
B.E. Computer Science: 304
B.E. Electronics & Instrumentation: 250
B.E. Electronics & Communication: 285 (some sources align with ~285 for ECE)
B.E. Manufacturing: 222 (approximate alignment from trends)
M.Sc. programmes (e.g., Biological Sciences: ~208–223, Economics: ~251, etc.; exacts vary slightly but lower than B.E.)
K K Birla Goa Campus
B.E. Computer Science: 274
B.E. Electronics & Instrumentation: 234
B.E. Electrical & Electronics: 243 (aligned from multiple confirmations)
B.E. Electronics & Communication: 255
Other branches (Chemical ~206, Mechanical ~lower range) generally 200–250.
BITS Hyderabad Campus
B.E. Computer Science: 270
B.E. Electrical & Electronics: 239
B.E. Electronics & Communication: 256
B.E. Chemical: 205
B.E. Civil: 203
B.Pharm: 151 (lowest across campuses; Pilani ~168, no B.Pharm in Goa)
Notes on Cutoffs:
These are final/closing scores from the last iteration (admissions complete by mid-2025).
Popular branches like B.E. Computer Science saw drops compared to 2024 (e.g., Pilani from 327 to 304, Goa from 301 to 274, Hyderabad from 298 to 270) — likely due to exam difficulty, applicant pool, or seat adjustments.
M.Sc. programmes (with dual-degree option) have lower cutoffs (typically 200–260 range, highest for Economics 251 at Pilani).
B.Pharm remains the lowest (151–168 across campuses).
Counseling Process
BITSAT Counselling 2026: BITS Pilani will announce the BITSAT 2026 counselling dates online once the exam process concludes and the results are declared. Candidates declared qualified as per the BITSAT result will be eligible to participate in the counselling of BITSAT 2026. To register for the counselling, candidates have to submit their Class 12 marks and course preferences online at bitsadmission.com.
While filling in the choices of course and campus, candidates must be careful of the preference order. Moreover, the BITSAT 2026 counselling fee also has to be paid online through net banking, credit card, or debit card. The authorities will announce the seat allotment result in multiple iterations.
Seat allotment will be done based on the candidate’s performance in BITSAT 2026, preferences, category, and seat availability. Candidates who are allotted seats will have to confirm their admission before the final deadline.
