North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), established in 1973 by an Act of Parliament, is the oldest Central University in North-East India with its headquarters at Shillong and a campus at Tura in the West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya. The main objective of the University is to disseminate and advance knowledge and to pay special attention to the improvement of the social and economic conditions and welfare of the people of the hill areas in North-East India, particularly their intellectual, academic and cultural advancement. |
