About Career
As a logistics and supply chain worker, you will ensure that goods reach the intended customers or other organizations from the manufacturing plants, warehouse or stores to the destinations where the customers or organizations want them to be delivered.
You will be involved in packing goods, moving goods from one point to another inside a factory or warehouse, loading goods transport vehicles, etc. You will be involved in unloading goods transport vehicles, arranging goods in the right places, etc. You will be checking and managing inventory and ensure that the minimum level of inventories is managed appropriately. You will maintain records for movement of goods, that is, how many are received in the factory, warehouse or store and how many are dispatched out of the factory, warehouse or store.

Key roles and responsibilities
1. Completing the paperwork and receiving incoming consignments, checking them against invoices, identifying missing or defective items and processing returns with the distribution and checking compliance with business and legal standards
2. Entering information regarding goods received and their storage location in the computer system and forwarding bills & invoices to accounts payable.
3. Collecting the stored items list, perform physical counting of goods, cross-checking the physical count with the system numbers.
4. Packing items that require additional pre-packing or outbound packaging.
5. Loading and unloading cargo, labeling, repackaging items and documenting cargo that has been moved.
6. Electronically process all orders and provide database management support for warehouse operations.
7. Binning items according to an inventory list.
8. Transporting material from staging area to the storage racks and picking area
9. Collecting components required to make one complete product, verifying with the bill of materials and packing them
10. Collecting packages from the local office and delivering them to the customers at their doorstep after proper verification
11. Sorting mail items according to the destination hub/service center in preparation for delivery
12. Bagging and de-bagging shipments and tagging them with bar-code stickers.
13. Tracking each consignment at regular intervals as it moves from origin to its destination. Coordinating with the truck driver, transport companies and transport authorities to update real-time information on the system.

Class 10 all subjects as per scheme of studies- Skill Training under Logistics Sector Skill Council at Kaushal Vikas Kendra under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (NVQF Level -3-4)/Basic Training Centre under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (Retail and Logistics)/ITI Industrial Equipment (Logistics Executive/Warehouse Management/Courier Services).

Once you’ve completed your secondary level studies, you can pursue your Skill Training under Logistics Sector Skill Council at Kaushal Vikas Kendra under PMKVY (NVQF Level -3-4)/Basic Training Centre under National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (Retail and Logistics)/ITI Industrial Equipment (Logistics Executive/Warehouse Management/Courier Services). Some CBSE schools allow vocational electives and streams. If present, you can pick retail in Class 10 and then go for vocational training for logistics under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana at any of the Kaushal Vikas Kendras or training centers.

Once you’ve completed your secondary level studies, you can pursue your higher secondary studies. Then, you can go for graduation with a Bachelor’s in any discipline. Then, you can go for an iACT course in Logistics and Supply Chain.

This will make you eligible for entry-level jobs as a logistics and supply chain worker.
Undergraduate Courses
After your higher secondary exams, you can go for advanced training in logistics. You can then go for graduation in any field and after that, you can go for iACT (Logistics and Supply Chain). This will give you better opportunities in this field.

Work Environment
The work week is typically 40 hours long. There is not much freedom in decision making. Workers typically work in large warehouses, offices or ports. A lot of the time is spent using hands and feet for physical work. Strict adherence to standardization and safety procedures is usually enforced. Work with basic numbers and data entry involved. Usually involves high contact with others.

As a logistics and supply chain worker, you have to work with a lot of products. You will have to be physically active and make sure that the customers get their products on time.
