About Career 

1. As a Wax Pulling and casting Craftsman, you will be producing wax replicas of jewellery pieces for manufacturing the actual jewellery using metal casting. Making a wax replica or wax casting is the initial stage for manufacturing any sort of Jewellery. You will be working with different types of hand tools to create replicas of jewellery and gemstones using molten wax. This is generally referred to as ‘wax casting’.

2. You may also be producing wax replicas of jewellery pieces by an injection moulding process. You will be using different types of waxes, injection moulding machines and other ingredients to produce replicas of jewellery. The use of injection moulding in producing wax replicas of jewellery is generally referred to as ‘wax pulling’.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

As a wax-pulling and casting Craftsman, you will be involved in the following roles and responsibilities:

1. You will first understand the design specifications and check whether the jewellery pieces and gemstones received (wax replicas of which are required) match the design specifications in terms of patterns, shapes, sizes, weights, etc.

2. You will choose the right kind of wax and wax piece for creating the jewellery replica by casting method.

3. You will clean and smooth wax patterns to make sure that there is no defect in the final wax replicas (in the casting method).

4. You will set the jewellery or gemstone pieces into the wax and press the pieces using various hand tools. This will create the replica by casting method.

5. You will use rubber moulds and injection moulding machines to create replicas of jewellery by ‘wax pulling’ or injection moulding process.

6. You will feed wax to the hopper of the injection moulding machine, control the temperature and pressure in the machine to melt the wax and then start the machine.

7. You will then hold the rubber mould under the injector of the moulding machine. The injector injects molten wax into the rubber mould to produce the wax replica.

8. You will then keep the rubber moulds with molten wax for a few minutes for the wax to cool and solidify. When solidified, you will take the wax replica out of the moulds and proceed to finish the pieces.

9. You will then finish the wax pieces by smoothening the surface to correct any defects. You will be providing finishing to wax pieces as per design requirements and laid down standards.

10. You will make sure that the original jewellery pieces and gemstones are not damaged during casting or preparing the mould.

Career Entry Pathway 

Class 5 in school – Obtain an NSQF Level 3 certificate in Wax Setter (Basic).

After completing class 5, you can take appropriate training and then obtain an NSQF (National Skills Qualification Framework) Level 3 qualification in Wax Setter (Basic).

After completing class 10, you may obtain NSQF (National Skill Qualification Framework) Level 4 certification in Wax Piece Maker. For this certificate, you need to be 18 years of age and also must have completed Computer Operations Training.

After completing class 5, you may obtain NSQF (National Skill Qualification Framework) Level 3 certification in Wax Setter. For this certificate, you need to be 18 years of age.

After completing Class 10, you may obtain an NSQF Level 3 qualification in Wax Setter and then obtain a minimum of 3 years of work experience in wax model making. After which you may obtain an NSQF Level 5 qualification in Wax Model Making Supervisor.

Required Qualification & Competencies 

After completing Class 5 in school:

1. You may obtain an NSQF Level 3 certificate in Wax Setter (Basic) and an NSQF Level 3 certificate in Wax Setter.

After completing Class 10 in school:

1. You may obtain an NSQF Level 4 certificate in Wax Piece Maker.

2. However, you may also obtain NSQF Level 3 qualification in Wax Setter and then have a minimum of 3 years of work experience in wax model making. After that, you may apply for NSQF Level 5 qualification in Wax Model Making Supervisor.

1. Realistic - You should have an interest in Realistic Occupations. Realistic occupations involve more practical and hands-on activities than paperwork or office work. Realistic occupations often involve physical activities for getting things done using various tools and equipment.

2. Conventional - You should have interests in Conventional Occupations. Conventional occupations involve repetitive and routine tasks as well as fixed processes or procedures for getting things done. These occupations involve working more with data, systems, and procedures and less with ideas or creativity.

4. Finger Dexterity - The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

5. Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.

6. Control Precision - The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.

7. Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production machinery, production systems, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for manufacturing or construction and distribution of goods.

8. Quality Control Analysis - Skills in conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

As a Wax Pulling and casting Craftsman, you can grow in your workplace from a trainee to a Wax Model Maker and then to a wax model-making supervisor after having 3 to 4 years of work experience. If you work well and your work becomes popular, you can grow very fast.

Salary Offered  

1. At the beginning of your career, you will earn about Rs. 6,000 – Rs. 7,000 a month.

2. After having 2-6 years of experience, you may earn about Rs. 8,000 – Rs. 10,000 a month.

3. After 8-12 years of experience, you may earn about Rs. 10,000-12,000 or more per month.

4. After 12-15 years of experience, you may earn about Rs. 12,000 – 18,000 or more per month.
