Description

India has the world's second-largest interconnected road network, with national highways accounting for only 1.8% of overall road infrastructure. According to a Ministry of Road, Transport, and Highways report, India maintains a complete network of 599 national highways that have been renumbered over time. These vital highways serve as vital linkages, connecting key agricultural, industrial, and cultural areas across the country, covering a total length of over 132,500 kilometers.

India, a huge fabric of culture and diversity, is linked by a massive network of highways that crisscross its landscapes. These highways, which carry the nation's lifeblood, connect booming cities, peaceful villages, and bustling markets, promoting trade, travel, and cultural exchange. Among these connection arteries, the National Highways stand out as the lifelines of India's road network, considerably contributing to its growth and development.

India's Longest and Shortest National Highway

The longest National Highway in India is National Highway 44 (NH 44), which runs from Srinagar to Kanyakumari. NH 548 is India's smallest national highway.
